We're Having Skillet Potatoes and Onions for Breakfast | How to make Skillet Potatoes

Publicado 2021-05-12
Welcome back y'all! Today I'll be showing you how I make one of my favorites breakfast dishes. I remember the very first time I had skillet potatoes, my husband made then for me years ago and it was THE BOMB! If you love potatoes, then you'll love these. Very simple and beginner friendly.

5 Russet Potatoes
1/4 Onion- sliced
Salt to taste
Pepper
onion powder (optional)
paprika
parsley
thyme
3 tbsp oil (or more as needed)
2 tbsp unsalted butter (or more as needed)
3 tbsp Water

Season to your taste, I showed how to in the video. It's very easy, no measurements needed.

I love the fact that you just cook simple, normal food with normal ingredients and not some weird fancy stuff like other channels do. This is honestly just good food.

My mother used to make this when I was a child - it's UNBELIEVABLY good! Simple food, properly cooked beats ANY fancy cuisine in my opinion. Many Thanks from the UK.

My mother used to make these with hot biscuits, butter & honey on the side, with bacon. Yummy! I miss those meals.
  • My grandma used to make skillet potatoes and onions for me after school. She recently passed away and this is my go to meal when I miss her or am thinking about her. Thank you for sharing!

Whenever we have new potatoes for dinner I set some aside with a knob of butter and let them cool overnight in the fridge. Slicing and frying them with onions in the morning and serving with a fried egg is the best breakfast. I learned this when working in Germany where it's called Bratkartoffeln. Nice to see this variation.

I make mine just like this. And I put a little dish of sour cream or Greek yogurt on the side as a dip when I'm eating them - it's really good!

I have cooked these for years. They are wonderful with eggs over light and toast cooked on the stove top in a fry pan. I am 73 years old and from Alabama this is a southern tradition. Try them you will enjoy them.

I've been cooking since my parents divorced when I was 13. All those years, trying fancy recipes, spending lots of money on expensive ingredients, I've learned that simple is the best. With just a few basic ingredients, you can whip up something tasty. This video was very well done, and I just subscribed to this channel!

I always seem to end up watching a video like this just before going to bed. And all of a sudden all I can think about is how much I would give for a plate full of these incredible looking taters and onions. Darn that looks good. I actually think I could make these...and nobody would ever accuse me of being a cook!

I love skillet fried potatoes with onion. Like the idea of mixing oil with butter. So easy to follow along with you. Appreciate that you just showed slicing just 1 potato instead of all of them. Glad I found your site
  • Don't worry about the video quality - it all came across fine and the potatoes look great !! Thanks - trying them today.

Literally grew up on this. Such a cheap and easy meal and it's so good
  • I always like adding garlic, salt and black pepper to mine. It's amazing how so few seasoning ingredients it takes to make a good testing dish. I also add scrambled eggs to the bowl and add some ketchup to the whole thing. Your recipe looks great too.

No need to apologize for lighting. The video was great! Just tried this and the seasoning combination was phenomenal. Thank you!

Yum!! My Scottish mother had a very similar recipe - only difference was she added garlic. Thanks for bringing back those wonderful memories! 🙏
