i’m actually astonished that brian made a genuinely heartbreaking song about a dying marriage with the crux being shitty 18+ game ads. you never fail to amaze us

You all know the drill: Funny little jingle or existential horror? Cast your votes now!
  • @crunchieriest
the fact that it ended up being a tile match game is really the icing on the cake
  • Something really intriguing about the ending I just noticed is that when the app shows up on the phone, it shows it as downloadable from the cloud, implying that the main character already downloaded the game before, deleted it, but couldn’t stay away. Even more layers to the plot …

Brian can describe the heartbreak of a failing relationship while looking amazing in fairy wings. What a guy
  • Imagine you're in a failing marriage and also a huge BDG fan. You click onto one of your favorite creator's new videos only to be roasted alive by this beautiful man you've never met

There's a line my brain keeps coming back to, weeks after listening to this-- 'Cause you haven't tried in two years, so why start today?' It really struck me how concisely he's summed up the horrific trap your mind can fall into so easily. It was just so haunting to hear. In my case it's not a failing relationship, it's just the mental trap of depression, but. Damn. It really is like the awful little voice in your head that's convincing you to not bother trying.
  • "That you better have treated your better half better" Is such a genuinely good line. I don't know what else to expect.
  • @E3kHatena
The punchline that it's just a match-3 is absolutely phenomenal.
  • Not enough people are talking about the EDITING. Either he pre-recorded all those videos and installed them onto separate screens to shoot, or he found filters that make it look like a camera shooting a screen. Either way, incredible, so much effort.
  • @PkKirby
BDG's consistent track record of sucking you into a song by its silly premise only to hit you with a deeper story about the fragility of one's mind is something to applaud and celebrate.

I was expecting, and even getting, satirical criticism of the kind of person who would "not tell their wife about this game," but it slowly morphed from that into a genuinely heartbreaking tale of a relationship falling apart, in a way that did not feel mocking or sarcastic. It gives the ending shot where the viewer finally installs the app so much meaning.

From the ‘wife’ (partner of 6 years) ‘s perspective, it broke my heart anyway, and the secrets only made it worse. If you’re struggling with something, cheating, addiction, disinterest etc, please just tell them, I promise it will hurt them less than finding out. Don’t prioritise your guilt over respect for your partner. Oh and great song Brian x

"you better have treated your better half better but you're too sad" is an INCREDIBLY hook omg brian pop sweep!!! please songwrite an album
  • I appreciate that Brian is scrolling through the Halo wiki. 2 years on and Brian is still trapped by his knowledge of the Halo universe.

BDG is an old-school youtuber. No format. No schedule. No focus on a single subject matter. Just pure personality. A throwback to when you would subscribe to someone and you'd get a vlog, a skit, or a song parody depending on what they felt like. Maybe those kinds of youtubers are still around but I haven't seen them in a while.

2:52 I get goosebumps every time I hear the climax. The rising melody, descending chord progression, the main flaw in why the player can't come to terms with 'restarting' his relationship with his wife, all paying off from the buildup.

Been searching for 5 minutes for a single comment praising the astonishing SONGWRITING. Not just from a lyrical perspective, but purely a musical and harmonic one. That's grade A musical harmonic arrangement and the melody just fit's on top of the lyrical meaning like a cherry. Brian and Jonah Scott are profoundly gifted musicians.
