The only thing that bothered me was the use of human colloquialisms. Who knows, maybe the humans left a copy of The Big Book of English-Language Idioms as an additional part of their vaunted legacy. And yes, I liked the story.

We're humans. The impossible we can do immediately, miracles might take a little longer.

I've enjoyed the whole,
HFY stories, no matter who the narrator is.
I'm an old man now.(in my 60s) But I once was a Infantry soldier, in the US Army.
I find these tales very entertaining. They help me unwind in the evening.
Here in Northern California, everyone is putting in their crops.
And at the end of the day, I'm tired. And there is nothing to watch on TV, anymore.
Your sci-fi HFY is fantastic to relax to.
Know that here, where it is still chilly at night and early mornings.
