  • I personally enjoyed the game, I found the achievements extremely grindy and annoying though. But I also think that 1 of the major things that went wrong with Mafia 3 was that it felt like it was trying to compete with GTA instead of being a Mafia game. It's been a long ass time since I played Mafia 1 and 2, but if my memory serves me correctly, then I remember playing the first 2 games and not once feeling like it was GTA. Mafia was it's own IP and it did good seperating itself. Mafia 3 however left what we loved about Mafia behind for a revenge storyline with gameplay that tried to rival GTA.

I honestly love this game. I finished it 6 times now and got all achievments. It's a forgotten masterpiece

In the end I feel Mafia 3 was more memorable for the story and vibes compared to GTA 5 which is fun oriented only
  • I finished it not too long ago, doing some backlogging on older games. Alot of the technical in this game is borderline horrendous. But the voice acting in this game, some of the characters, the brutal tone of the setting. And Donophan as a side character, that man was gold

I wish in all these gta, mafia, Saint row type games the devs would spend a little time creating a territory war in large scale. Like not even part of the campaign. A “territory mode”. Each one has a small taste of it, but then moves on or away from it as the game goes on.

I remember when it released, it had tons of bugs. What didn't help were the comparisons to mafia 2, which showed how it lacked a lot of tiny details which mafia 2 had.

Btw the only backstabbing I noticed you could do so far is not give any extra districts to your racket bosses. SPOILER: Burke got mad at me and started sending irish mob guys after me. Had to kill him, was a sad scene.
  • my main gripe with mafia 3 was reducing vito to a underling to some guy we barely know knowing his backstory it felt out of place He did prison time went to war etc Also, another problem I had was Lincoln Clay, taking over the rackets instead of just outright destroying them he’s profiting off of the same evil he’s against makes his mission seem disingenuous

i feel mafia 3 brought back a lot of nostalgia for me cause it was setup a lot like one of those open world games on ps2 that went under the map like scarface

Mafia 3 has the best combat and music in the trilogy. Lincoln's brutal take over and revenge was well done too.

I would like a Game set in Germany in the mid 40s and 50s going to into the coldwar like you play as a spy for the USSR.

As a black Texan the most annoying thing about that game to me was the black people's accents lol black people from Louisiana do not talk like that at all, it grated on my ears every time I had to hear a black Mississippi/Alabama accent on a person who was supposed to be a black person from New Orleans. I had to keep saying to myself "well it's not New Orleans, it's a fictional city, so the accents are fine." But beyond that it was a cool game, it was just insanely repetitive. But it was nice to see something kinda resembling my culture represented in a video game. The setting was enjoyable to me.

you actually can double cross your allies, i think you overlooked a great aspect of this game.
  • Mafia 2 was sooo good . One of my favorites. I was so excited for mafia 3 . I played it for 15 minutes and almost cried I was so let down . I almost wrote a letter to the developer

I liked the soundtrack for sure and the story was pretty interesting but felt not like a mafia game. If they took out the idea of taking over the city it would honestly feel like a punisher style game with an OP solider facing off against gangsters. It would’ve honestly been better if they went the route of a gangster story in the shape of Nicky Barnes or Frank Lucas taking over the city, least that way it feels more grounded since they wouldn’t be skilled in every weapon, explosive and so on so you’d need the help of the people under you. There was so many times I’d just mow down people with ease and not even think about calling one of my underbosses except the arms dealer

I loved this game for the era and vibe and I thought the dlcs were strong / growing that weed empire was a blast. Still think 2 is the goat ofc.

Story was great, cutscenes done well. The main missions were fun but the in between was repetitive to get to those main missions. Going open world was its biggest flaw.
  • I played through Mafia 3 last month for the first time too, I honestly loved it, I don't get why it gets such a bad rap I give it a lot of credit for such a great use of music of the time, I'm a sucker for great use of music in games and movies
