A toddler is now an orphan following the mass shooting in Highland Park, Illinois. Two-year-old Aiden McCarthy was attending the local Fourth of July parade with his mom Irina McCarthy and dad Kevin McCarthy when bullets started to fly. Witnesses say Kevin McCarthy shielded his son with his own body. The 2-year-old survived and was taken in by Dana and Greg Ring. After posting on social media, a neighbor of the McCarthy's recognized Aiden and reunited him with his grandparents.

No amount of money can replace parents, but at least he has something to fall back on. The kindness and support of people is heartwarming
  • This is so sad. The parents didn’t deserve to die. I hope the best for Aiden and the rest of their family, fly high 🕊❤️

I hope the lady is doing well. It sounds like she just barely made it out alive too and even tho she was terrified and in shock, she still managed to grab the little boy and to bring him to safety along with her. You’re amazing lady. If it wasn’t for you who knows if anyone else of good faith was to find him. Bless him. Not even old enough to understand anything that was happening.

To think a child beginning his life must pay the price of another’s malice is so unsettling. Life is priceless! I’m thankful he has loving family and can use money raised towards his future. Rest In Peace to everyone involved 💔

I thought I was becoming numb from these tragedies and then this little guy popped up in my feed and I have cried so much for him and his parents and the other victims. His Daddy will always be his hero. May his parents rest in peace. God bless this baby boy and keep him safe. And thank you to the couple that rescued him. Angels on Earth do exist.

Rip to those parents and anyone else killed in the shooting. No kid deserves to lose their guardians.

Can you imagine going to a parade with your parents and leaving alone from them being killed. His dad is a hero for protecting his son. God bless this boy.

I know exactly how the kid will feel as he grows up and asks questions about his parents.I lost my parents 8 days before I turned 4 years old,I'm 42 now and my Grandparents raised me too.May God And His Parents Watch Over Him From Above And Keep Him Safe🙏🙏
  • Poor Aiden McCarthy as he now lost both his parents and became an orphan because of this heartless person who's behind this shooting, I'm glad Aiden is with his grandparents and not sent to the orphanage.

Those parents did exactly what they were supposed to do. They saved their sons life. He will at least have the comfort of knowing how loved he was by his parents and how brave they were and will never be forgotten

It's so heart breaking. In a few years time he won't even have any memories of the parents who loved him so much 💔

Omg that poor little kid. I can’t even imagine how that would feel. I pray this little boy becomes a good person and is okay in the future.

That's terrifying. Rest in peace to all who were killed, and prayers to all the people who lost loved ones. This is getting out of hand, I'm afraid to even go outside of my neighborhood anymore.

This is horrific and it was preventable. Yet, our lawmakers do nothing to combat gun violence. My heart breaks for this family.

It’s literally so sad how much this happens in America, nearly half of them could have been prevented.

I feel so sad for him. There’s gonna be a time this kid would grow to feel such sadness because he was denied the memory of his parents.

So heartbreaking 💔 but his dad did what a unconditional parent does, he shielded his boy to do the ultimate sacrifice his life for his boy’s life. I’ll do the same in a heartbeat. My kids know I’ll die protecting them. Sending love to baby Aiden 🙏🏽
  • I’m so heartbroken for that little boy… he’ll never remember his mother and fathers voice or their love😭💔😇 “I’m praying for you buddy and your family!” Bless EVERYONE that helped this little one or has been devastated by this horrible act.

I live 20 minutes away from where this happened and I can’t describe the heart wrenching feeling that I felt when I found out about this, especially because the guy that did this was on the loose for 6 hours before they got him. Prayers for Adien and his family, and all the other victims families.
