A common misperception is that smoking is simply a habit and that if you can go 21 days without using you will break the habit . Video discusses how smoking is more than a habit, it is an addiction accompanied by associations with many events and activities encountered throughout life. Experience, not time is what is going to determine how long it is before you break all of the different associations that you may have with cigarettes.

  • I watched alot of your videos before quitting and now have been smoke free for 14 days Thanks Joel
  • I was always told that if I quit smoking I will gain weight. I haven't had a cigarette for 10 days, and lost 5 pounds. Before I quit, I was drinking Dr. Pepper with my cigarette, and now I drink mostly water. Now that I'm not smoking, I've had people to offer me cigarettes, and even packs of cigarettes. I just smile, and say no thanks. On the inside I'm saying I would love to have one, but I know in my heart, I can never give in or I'll be hooked once again.

  • The reality is, I quit cold turkey after 28 years, I started at 21.  I have not lived my adult life yet, without cigarettes.  It is a whole new lifestyle have to learn to do.  I am up for the challenge, and learning what non-smokers do.

It amazes me how, at seemingly random times, I'll want one -- & I'm only 4 days into my quit! On day one I was trying to find something to do to keep my mind occupied, so I figured I'd water the plants. While the watering can was filling up I had the thought "well, I'm gonna be waiting a while. Guess i'll light one up." Yeesh. That urge was one of the worst I've had since I quit. All that to say, it's enlightening to see my smoking self as a non-smoker. I was such a slave to those things!
  • Today was a hard day. Day 10. I was in the store ready to buy a pack but I didn't. I couldn't. It's like the old me's voice is getting smaller and the new me's voice is getting bigger. Your videos help me so much before bed I watch them almost every night to keep me inspired and on track. God bless you and thank you

12th day cold turkey today. Was a day off work, good day but felt need to keep busy. Washed car and did garden work for a neighbor then went for a long walk. like I said good day but just feeling restless and keep waking in night not sleeping long at all.
  • well said Joel. I've been 8 days smoke free and at some points of the day it's so easy. But I get really tough moments when I do something that before would always be with a cigarette. This as you say is going to take years. As time goes by I'm sure each activity or associated moment will get easier.

Oh, I definitely don't want to a cigarette. The withdrawal symptoms are a bitch though, pretty happy that they're not there all the time. This is a drug addiction, nothing more, nothing less. 11 days into withdrawal and I slept 3 hours last night :|

I think he meant that his brain now resembles that of a non smoker in terms of the acetylcholine in the brain. http://whyquit.com/whyquit/A_Benefits_Time_Table.html

35 days without a cigarette. and i still have cravings. i've been feeling this way for a couple of weeks now. i stopped craving on the 3rd week, but it all came back like a big big wave... ugh.
  • @cinmac3
A woman I know was 17 years without smoke, she is now a smoker again that says when I am ready I will quit. I believe Joel is correct saying, the only way is to have another , puff.
