Loss is something we all have to deal with. But few of us are taught how to heal from these difficult experiences—a divorce, an accident, a miscarriage, a cancer diagnosis, losing the love of your life, or the death of a loved one.

Today on The Doctor’s Farmacy, I talk with my good friend, Kris Carr, about some of the greatest lessons she has learned through her own grief, and how even the most difficult losses can reveal a roadmap to our next chapter of fully living.

Kris Carr is a multiple New York Times best-selling author, wellness activist, and cancer thriver. She’s been called a “force of nature” by O magazine and was named a “new role model” by The New York Times. Kris is also a member of Oprah’s SuperSoul 100, a group of the most influential thought leaders today. Other media appearances include Good Morning America, The Today Show, and The Oprah Winfrey Show. She and her work have been featured in Glamour, Prevention, Scientific American, Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, and other national publications. Kris has helped millions of people take charge of their health and live like they mean it through her award-winning blog, books, online courses, and membership communities.

Dr. Hyman… I knocked off sugar and processed foods for 6 weeks and lost ten lbs without exercise. Also my heart rate has dropped more than 10 beats a minute! I am 58 and in a wheel chair. I am hoping to lose more and be able to get in the pool again for exercise. I am not as hungry as I was before eating all the sugar.

Andrew Huberman has done therapy every week for 30 years (said on Peter Attia podcast). Nothing wrong with therapy, a "tune-up" what have you. We need to end the stigma of grief, mental illness, etc. We are not robots, we are human beings.
  • You are both superstars. Sharing raw, painful life experiences and then looking up and forward in such a positive way. Truly amazing and inspiring. I'm going to share this with many of my patients.

An important video and dialogue about the human condition. I felt validated that I am not alone in the challenges in this life. Kindness to self is paramount and - "we cannot give to others that which we haven't given to our self FIRST" - the golden rule of self-care. On a personal note - my travels have been the best education with direct immersion into the culture of my global destinations - so awesome to experience! Thanks Dr. Hyman, for sharing about your transcendent experiences in India. Powerful sharing, caring, and healing - lot's of wisdom here.

2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV) For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of POWER and of LOVE and of a SOUND MIND. . I pray all those who are lost, scared, confused, in fear, seek God's face and let him restore your heart and mind, In Jesus name! 🙌 Amen 🙏

A little too much levity here. With all the laughter it diminishes the hard work that we have to do in a recovery process. Why is that not addressed here. I’m a childhood trauma survivor and have had to do 20 years of research on toxic family dynamics and going no contact from my family of origin. The betrayal alone coming from my parents and 6 younger siblings is shocking when u experience it even when the books and therapists tell u this will happen. Which is grief personified and lasts a lifetime to some degree. I believe depression is prolonged grieving.

Why does stage 4 cancer matter if you can live 20-50 years anyway. Did you take chemo? Is that what kills people?

"In therapy for 30 years"! My goodness, that is not a good role model for most of us.
