who the hell takes a 10 year old into a forbidden flooded cave?!

Let's go to a cobra and spider-infested cave during monsoon season and ignore all warnings. What could possibly go wrong?

Imagine telling the family members "sorry your children are dead, they thought the venomous death cave was safe".

It's good to know my finely honed fear of insects, spiders, snakes, the dark and confined spaces didn't evolve over millions of years for nothing.

The thing that always gets me is that there's nothing in these caves worth risking your life over 🤔

With all due respect for the dead. If an official tour guide tells you not to do it because the cave is dangerous and its monsoon time, how can you as a non-local and with zero experience just overgo this advice and find someone with also zero experience and pay him to go with you? And if you do so, sad enough. But for god's sake why do you get you 10 yo boy on such a trip? Did she thought it was an offical tour guide or what? ... These kind of stories always tore me apart between anger and just poor sadness for everyone involved. ;(

If she's that terrified of bugs why would she even want to continue in the cave? Strange choices all around.

I cannot believe the bravery and determination of the locals for literally 0 reward to save this woman

If you’ve spent even 1 day in Thailand during monsoon season, how on earth would you make the decision to go into this cave? It rains violently everyday during monsoon season, and it’s usually a flash flood type situation that’s over in 15 minutes. Just mind boggling to make such a bad decision and to not listen to the locals and the signs.

I'm actually most baffled that the man jumped into the water after they watched everyone get swept away.

Anyone who gets around water knows that there is always that one guy with a boat who will do whatever you pay him to do, no matter if he knows how or not…….

The amount of death they caused just to see a cave she barely wanted to go to. Heartbreaking

When you ignore the warnings. You get the Darwin award.

Even the guide, who wants to make money, told them not to go there under any circumstances. Dad's hard-earned money was just burning a hole in Jon's pocket and what better way to spend some of it than enter an extremely dangerous cave in monsoon season? The spiders alone would have kept me out. I hope Helena rewarded the Thai who was responsible for saving her life.

The fact she wasn't bitten by a lethal snake or other thing is nothing short of a miracle.

I feel so bad for that 10yo boy, and helped. Who rides a boat 2 hours then hikes 2 hours to go into THAT. Even if they'd made it out, it'd be dark almost, then 4 hours back. Poor kid must have been tired and terrified before they even got in the cave.

This John guy seems like a real fool. First, he refuses to stay out of the cave during the Raining Season. And then, for no logical reason, he jumps into the raging torrent screaming I LOVE YOU. Maybe John is just a fool for love. People like John don't live to a ripe old age.

Who in their right mind would jump into the water thinking you'd get washed out the other side??? I can't imagine what it'd be like in that situation, but I know I'd never do that.

You don't have to be deathly afraid of "creepy crawlies" to be freaked out when surrounded by a million of them. Ugh! It's a nightmare.
