I am an athlete. I saw Jan Zelezny in a training camp with my own eyes. It was around 1989-1990. His coach asked to the athletes present to kindly move away from the whole ground... We didn't recognize him immediately... On the contrary, we thought who is this moron... Then, at the first training throw (with three steps only) we realized that he was a master... Impressive!!! The thing that still impressed me today, 30 years later, is the extraordinary acceleration he could impart to the javelin. The acceleration was amazing. And also I remember well the javelin vibrated in the air and sound never want to come down... There is no video or description that could give an idea of the Zelezny throwing power. Impressive!

No steroids, no bulky muscles, like some of todays 220 + pound throwers, just pure technique, fantastic timing and maximum momentum just right at release phase. Genius.

"Attention... please clear the stands on the other side of the stadium. For your own safety.... please clear the stands"

Just so everyone understands - he’s throwing a stick across an entire football field with just a little bit of a running start….. do you even understand how utterly insane that is

Javelin is so hard on the body, most throwers can only peak world class for 3-5 years, people like Thorkildsen/Pitkamaki did it for 7-11 years. Zelezny did it for nearly 20 years, winning bronze at the 2006 European champs at 40 YEARS OLD (!) and making his debut on the world stage around 1987. What an absolute legend! Imagine someone like Thomas Rohler who really hit world class in 2015 being around in 2035 :D

When he retired, at 40 years old, he was still capable of throwing javelins at 85 meters.

Genetic freak, half human, half beast. Or that was actually a bionic arm, there's no other explanation. Zelezny is the most dominating athlete I know, I don't know why he isn't more famous (well yes I do, because he reigned before hyper marketing times). His sport is just as classic and appealing as the 100m dash and he was just as dominating as Usain Bolt is, if not more. And he was always the smallest of all his opponents. A true legend.

I was privileged to watch Jan Zelezny in his prime. He is one of the greatest athletes in human history. Jan Zelezny honours the Olympics and Ancient Greece.
  • He also won bronze medal on his last race in career. It was in Goteborg in 2006 at european championship and it was about 86 meters. He was 40 years old at that time. Amazing in that age.

Had he been the Night King , he would have gotten 3 out of 3 Daenerys's dragons .
  • @mickioo
This guy would chuck a javelin over the stadium and still look dissapointed, holy hell this guy is a boss :O

For me, as a Czech citizen, it makes me proud knowing we have some phenomenal athletes even though our country is quite small.

“Sir?...” “Yes?” “In a zombie apocalypse, what would be your weapon of choice?” “A Javelin”...

Compare him to 90% of Olympic javelin throwers today, he his half the size of not less, but his arm moves at 400mph he is incredible, truly naturally built for this sport
