2018-06-20に共有
Michael Closen, Professor Emeritus at The John Marshall Law School sat down for a candid video interview with the Notary Bulletin and shared his insights about the common mistakes that land Notaries in legal trouble and what they can do to stay out of court.

Professor Closen's Notary Best Practices Expert's Guide to Notarization of Documents focuses on the most frequent and most important notarial responsibility, to notarize traditional documents. It was written to inspire and foster today's notary to always perform thorough and sound document notarizations.

Best practices standards included in this book:
[1] tell notaries what to do,
[2] tell notaries how to do it, and
[3] tell notaries why to do it.

  • Professor Closen taught my Contracts 1 class in the fall of 1992. He was one of my favorites
  • This is a great book! I've learned a ton that I now apply out in the field. I cannot recommend this book enough to anyone that is a notary, or thinking about becoming a notary!
  • Great advice from an expert in the field. Not only did we purchase his book, we asked him to autograph it for us! Thank you, Professor Closen, for all you do to educate notaries.

Wow jewels of wisdom the best one yet
  • Every state has a Notory Handbook and they are easily accessible. I just downloaded the Virgina Notory Handbook. The Virgina Notory Handbook CLEARLY states that a VA notory can ONLY notorize with in the state of VA and it also states that their commission can be revoked by the Secretary of the CommonWealth of VA,they may also have to pay fines AND can even be imprisoned they use their VA seal outside of the state of VA.
  • What is to stop a person from using the signature page on another document. Often the signature page is separate from the rest of the document.
  • Most notory public's never use a notory journal. Only one time have I ever saw a notory document my signature in a notory journal and it was a WV Notory and I've had many things notorized.
  • I have a question. If I send court papers to someone in a different state from mine to sign an agreement and they get it notarized but I signed the document before hand can it will be notarized even if I wasn’t there.
