Hi all!

Welcome back to a brand new trip report. Today was a very exciting journey for me as this was my first time flying in something other than economy - I was lucky enough to fly in BA’s short haul business cabin called ‘Club Europe’.

Edinburgh Airport

Todays journey started early as I was flying on the first flight out of EDI that morning, although I was visiting London for a few days, I had no baggage to drop, so headed straight upstairs to security at 4am. club Europe passengers can of course use the Fast Track security lane at EdI - though I would watch your timing as even this lane can become extremely long due to lack of infrastructure and short staffing issues. Anyway, the BA lounge at EDI is located right next to Gate 5, where most LCY flights leave from - handy for business commuters I suppose! However, it doesn’t open until 5am. The lounge itself was extremely smart and well thought out as you’d expect, with many different seating areas depending upon what you are after. There was a decent selection of food and drink available but I did feel like it was rather small compared to what I was expecting, perhaps that was because it was first thing? I did enjoy a cup of tea and a pastry before quickly making my way to nearby Gate 10 for priority boarding, which started quickly.

Once onboard the aircraft, BA’s Club Europe cabin does not, in line with other European short haul C class, offer any difference in seat other than the middle being blocked out to allow for more room. A nice feature of the BA’s A320NEO aircraft was the under-seat plug and USB charging port. The seats are leather and are definitely comfortable, with adequate space on the seat in front for storage etc. The purser then came round offering the menus and greeted every passenger in Club by surname, which I thought was a really nice personal touch. There was however, no offer of a preflight drink which was a little strange. Of course being in Club Europe, you are sat onboard for some time whilst all other passengers board after you. We pushed back a bit late as a result of, unsurprisingly given our destination, a short slot delay. despite this we had a quick taxi out and departed EDI off of RWY24 in a SW direction.

The crew promptly got up to serve the inflight meals to Club Europe passengers and there was a good choice considering the short flight time. I opted for the Full English which went down a treat. I did like the feast that they came round and served warmed croissants at the same time. Although the size of of the meal was on the small side, I found it to be perfect as the short flight time really doesn’t allow for much time to eat - however maybe I timed it right, but there was no rush from the crew to hand back the dining supplies and crockery etc.

We entered a circling pattern to the NW of Heathrow, coming close to an American Airlines 777-300 also in the same holding pattern - early mornings at Heathrow don’t always allow for immediate landings! We descended slowly over the north of London before passing over the morning rush at LCY and landing on RWY27 Left, the south runway at LHR 1 minute early, despite the initial slot delay and holding pattern. We taxied for around 5 minutes to our parking stand at the domestic end of Terminal 5 and as we had no bags, we ere straight off for the tube in no time.

Over all, I was absolutely delighted with the service and Expedia’s a whole and I can honestly say - it’ll be hard to go back to economy! If I could make improvement suggestions, I would’ve liked to have seen the lounge open a little earlier as it doesn’t really give much time before the first flight. Additionally, a preflight drink would’ve been nice, even if just orange juice. Despite this, it was a really great experience and the staff both in the air and on the ground at EDI & LHR were all fantastic and made me feel valued and welcomed. We’ll done BA :)
