5:39 This accident is why I trained deckhands to always have a bumper in one hand, and the line in the other when approaching the dock at the end of the day. I would also have them prep four lines and four bumpers, hooked to all four cleats on both bow and stern, port and starboard, coiled and at the ready. I really didn't enjoy getting chewed out on the dock after the newbs make Cap look bad, by screwing up docking procedures lol. FWIW, my name is C. Reed, I spent close to 10 years as the 1st Mate & Deck Boss of the commercial crabbing vessel F/V Relentless. Our home port was Langley, WA for the Fall season. We operated out of Gray's Harbor, WA during the winter ocean season. You wanna talk about having all eyes on you while you dock a boat? Then give it a go in a commercial marina that's operating loading docks, on the smallest boat in the fleet! We had to be the best, because everyone thought we'd fail miserably or die on the ocean. We were the Highliner of our home port, and top boat for our quota allowance on the Pacific. So many crazy stories lol.
