2023 KEYNOTE: Health Inequity in EDS & HSD and What We Can Do To Change It - Dr. Akilah Cadet

Dr. Akilah Cadet was diagnosed with myopathic Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (mEDS) in 2021 after continual mistreatment and not having her pain believed. Founder and CEO of organizational development consulting firm Change Cadet, Dr. Cadet, was a Keynote speaker at our 2023 Global Learning Conference in Dublin, Ireland, discussing ‘Health Inequity in EDS & HSD, and What We Can Do to Change It.’
In this talk, Dr. Cadet shared her EDS journey, ways to take action for better outcomes for Black people (and BIPOC) who live with EDS, and what patients, providers, and systems can do to improve our outcomes. Dr. Cadet is now a valued member of The Ehlers-Danlos Society Board of Directors.

Same I’m black with classical like ehlers danlos syndrome! And a VUS in collagen 12 as well

Be more proactive in our healthcare and advocacy for ourselves and others. My sister works for a company that provides jobs for people with disabilities, however I don’t think they’re very familiar with Ehlers- Danlos Syndrome and wouldn’t know how to deal with people who have it ( hence myself).
