"We were pretty much scared out of our minds. I was straight out of college, and all of a sudden they were flying
me out to New York to perform live on national tv - The Tomorrow Show with Tom Snyder. And I was wearing these
horrible, crazy quilt velvet pants that a friend of mine had found at a thrift shop, and, you know, barefoot, frizzed-out hair. It was
quite a look. Jon Schwartz is a serious talented drummer, and I had him on his knees poundin' on my accordion case, blowing
into duck calls, siren whistles. I mean, if you're in my band you can't have too much of a sense of dignity. (laughs)"
- "Weird Al" Yankovic, Biography interview

Ridin' in a bus down the boulevard,
And the place was pretty packed.
Couldn't find a seat, so I had to stand,
With the perverts in the back.
It was smellin' like a locker room.
There was junk all over the floor.
We're already packed in like sardines,
But we're stoppin' to pick up more.
Look out!

chorus: Another one rides the bus-ah.
Another one rides the bus-ah.
And another comes on,
And another comes on.
Another one rides the bus-ah.
Hey!
He's gonna sit by you.
Another one rides the bus.

There's a suitcase pokin' me in the ribs.
There's an elbow in my ear.
There's a smelly old bum standin' next to me.
Hasn't showered in a year.
Well, I think I'm missin' a contact lens.
I think my wallet's gone.
And I think this bus is stoppin' again,
To let a couple more freaks get on.
Look out!

(chorus)

Another one rides the bus.
Another one rides the bus--ow!
Another one rides the bus--hey, hey!
Another one rides the bus--hey-y-y-y!

The window doesn't open, and the fan is broke,
And my face is turnin' blue.
I haven't been in a crowd like this
Since I went to see The Who.
Well, I should'a got off a couple miles ago,
But I couldn't get to the door.
There isn't any room for me to breathe.
Now we're gonna pick up more, yeah!

(chorus)

Pretty sure the audience never predicted that this guy's career would be going strong 35 years later.
  • @SunBunz
Al said he was SO nervous, this was the first live show he ever did. And he NAILED it. A superstar ever since.

41 years later, the man banging on the accordion case and squeezing the bicycle horns attached to it, Jon “Bermuda” Schwartz is still the drummer in Al’s band and has played on every album Weird Al’s released. Al Yankovic is an extremely loyal and wholesome National treasure that must be protected at all costs.

My favorite Weird Al story is where he said that he finally realized that he made it big. He was invited to a party with lots of other muscians and bigwigs and was wondering why he was there with all of these important people. He saw Paul McCartney of the Beatles. Paul saw him, got a huge smile, and yelled out, "Hey everyone! It's Weird Al!"

I like how the other guy looks like an Italian mobster and Al just looks like a stereotypical 70's hippy, yet they somehow make that work :)

As a daily bus rider, I believe Al based these lyrics on actual experience. 😂
  • This was pretty funny, he should make parodies for the next 4 decades or something.

"Do whatever you want with my music, just don't make it boring" -Freddie Mercury
  • 39 years later and he is still one of the most talented artists alive😂

Fun fact: Weird Al was his high schools valedictorian, and he graduated 2 years early. That is a one smart dude.

"hey, he's gonna sit by YOU" is pure genius writing. that one and the "shoeshine" line from "Fat" kills me even decades later.
  • @MarquisLeary34
Al is an institution at this point. Many in the music business have said "You know you've made it when Weird Al does your song."
  • @SheenaJackson39
This is arguably Weird Al's best parody. I lose it every time he says, "I haven't been in a crowd like this since I went to see The Who."

It’s 2024, and I still enjoy this! Anyone else?? ‰

"He who is tired of Weird Al, is tired of life itself". Homer Simpson

I love how serious Jon Schwartz looks while making whistles and fart noises.
  • @genepaul2229
That takes a lot of confidence and balls to do. He absolutely killed it doing that. He is a true talent
