  • my little brother (16 yo) died by suicide while he was on 6 tabs of LSD and about 2 months afterwards I listened to this song in the car with all of my best friends who had been my friends since I was about 13. we were on a road trip driving through the mountains, we had the windows down and all sang at the top of our lungs. all I could think of was how much i missed my brother but simultaneously how grateful I was for the support of my friends. it will be a core memory of mine forever and ever. that’s all.

Bruh no song except for this has made me feel extremely happy, completely confused, and deeply depressed at the same time

You could legit make the argument that this is Kanye's most brilliant song ever. Cudi's verse represents the low of bipolar depression (depression), and 070 Shake's verse represents the highs of bipolar depression (mania). That's why 070 Shake says "I put my hand on a stove to see if I still bleed, and nothing hurts anymore" ... that's what mania does to you... you make reckless decisions and feel somewhat impervious to the consequences. The instruments back this up too... the guitars and lasers in the background have way more energy than the downtempo Cudi verse. Cudi's verse is all about the blanket of anxiety depression wraps you in... the hopelessness... "but everything I try just takes you further from me." Kanye's verse is the in-between state, dealing with the consequences of his depressed and manic states "sometimes I talk like I drank all the wine." If you break down the lyrics and the instruments used in this track at each point in its progression, you'll probably also come to realize that this is no lower than top 5 in Ye's catalogue. Ridiculously underrated track.

hi i wanted to share my story with this song real quick. i have suffered from anorexia for 4 years now. anorexia has always controlled me in someway. i heard this song a few months ago. at the time i heard it i was very ill from my lack of food intake. i listened to the words closely. i heard "and nothing hurts anymore i feel kind of free". i thought about my life if i was free, if i was living a life where i was myself. i thought about the words for weeks. it wasn't easy at all but i sat down last night with my family and had my first real meal in about 4 years. i have never felt more free in my entire life. those words truly saved my life. my family never had enough money to put me into an eating disorder clinic. so basically i was slowly dying. those words truly have saved me. thanks to those words about being free i have done what i never thought i would be able to. to anyone who possibly sees this who is struggling with any type of addiction or ed it gets better. you are not alone.
