  • Good on ya! Sometimes, it's not about the cost; it's about the skills that are being rapidly lost.
  • I have only had to 1 one like that on a generator and it was my fault for not checking the oil before i started it. I was half asleep after a 15 work day and now i make sure to check the oil in any 4 stroke engine before i start it

I was skeptical but the Muratiic acid was AMAZING. My first instinct was to try a propane torch because I assumed that the combination of Aluminum's low melting temp and high rate of thermal expansion would make it pop it loose and drip Aluminum on the floor. I gave up out of fear of over heating the crank. The only thing I would do differently next time would be to apply bug spray on myself first because bugs were biting me and I couldn't risk swatting them with my acid covered gloves LOL

So Mr. Tech Tip 😎 that acid wow really did the job ! Two in one day NICE ‼️ Great save .
  • @faceman8893
Wow! I thought that crank was toast great job
  • @bumpkinrocks
Proper job! I've tried hydrochloric acid before and like you it did nothing.
  • Hi, thanks for this vid had a cylinder go down on my pro XS 250 merc and it was coated with aluminum. Took about 2 hours and a good honing and she’s ready for a new piston.
  • @lloydtowne161
Hello. my experience would steer me towards sodium hydroxide ( lye) solution will dissolve aluminum and has no effect on steel what so ever. It is how machinists clean aluminum from files . keep making the videos . Great.
  • @isellfoodstampz
emery cloth for sanding, wont contaminate the metal with sand, but "it's a lawnmower not the space shuttle"
  • that eng had to be run with no oil alum. melts at 1100-1200 deg i think norrmal running dont get that hot you may be able to heat with a torch and wipe it off
  • I’ve done it a lot but most of the time crank is bad and not in specks
  • i wonder if you could put the rod on loose and use it to rotate the emory cloth woud be smother than the rope
  • Maybe should have washed off acid with baking soda before polishing journal. I would have used korcus cloth
  • I've seen this done makes the second time on dressing it - getting it ready for piston rod . never saw the acid used tho . great video ....Thanks
  • R U going to do a video 📹 of the reassemble? That was awesome
