Watching your videos is so soothing it’s like being a kid again and helping my dad, a motor mechanic, fix cars mowers etc. I feel like I should be grabbing spanners and screw drivers for him. Thanks

I did have 3 of these 19.5 twin briggs engines the first one was given to me because the guy ran his mower without checking the oil level and it ran dry so it was locked up good an broke so then I gave it to someone else to play with they fixed its problems and sold it

I'm glad you showed how to get out of a pickle when a repair goes south in the case of the main jet. This way we can all learn.

I bought a 20hp opposed Briggs with an oil pump (not a slinger) on ebay. It was a brand new NOS engine still in the crate. Awesome motor.
  • I was able to resurrect a Briggs, 18 hp twin from an old Wards tractor after it sat for about 17 years.   Oiled the cylinders and checked for spark and it runs like a top!!  Course I did run it dry before storing it!!
  • Say Jeff that spider was a dudette. It had a huge egg sack to help with all that red silicon in the inlet runners. Moh gaskitt. Seal up that intake all the way and that engine will last forever. Ya'll have to fix it till it doesn't work I think.

Boy those briggs oppose twin run nice and sound good, great job Jeff you got a really nice engine.
  • I’ve parted out over 50 riding mowers and I think around 8 of them had one of those Briggs two cylinder opposed engines. They idle really smooth and are well balanced. I sold every one I had because they are splash lube types. I really wish Briggs had kept building opposed piston engines with improvements because the V-Twin Vanguards don’t idle smoothly.

Hi jeff i allways enjoy your videos and the chickens...lol..i've been working on mowers since 12 years old..i have ran in to a lot of carb's that looked like that what i have discoverd is sea foam..i'll soak them for a little bit of time..it really helps to get a lot of that crud out easy..i also put seafoam in the ethanol free fuel It works well..that motor sounds great..i also like the opposed engine..keep the videos coming and the chickens...lol..

I was watching a video on carb cleaning.....holy deal Jeff. This was great to watch especially those diaphrams being put together. I was rooting for ya. Truly gifted you are
  • Ok I'll share an easier way to put the fuel pump together. Place the two copper springs on the bosses with assembly lube. Just enough to make them stick in place. The lube will be washed away by the gasoline in the first 5 min of operation. Since you have the the intake off already place it with the face of the fuel pump casting up. Put your rubber diaphram on. Now place the diaphram protector on the diaphram and the spring inside it. gravity is your friend now. Make sure the tiny copper spring is being held by the assembly lube on the plastic boss. Now turn it over and carefully put it over the large spring and line up the bolt holes. Now hold that in place while you put the other gasket and the metal cover over it. Put the bolts in and your done.

Great rebuild and smart bench testing rig. Great video as always. Really enjoy.

Ues a ittle oil to stick the diaphran on the main carb . put the pump on a bench. set the carb on the pump. I have been working on small engines for over 60 years.
  • Sounds real good but those broken head bolts need replaced immediately. Like pronto.
  • Try putting a tiny dab of grease on the bottom of those springs and they will stay right where you put them. Works for me.
  • Those engines will last forever. I have one in a 1989 Montgomery Ward 18/38 that was abused by the previous owners. Bought it about 4 years ago. A little service to the tractor. It is a daily worker in the spring to fall mowing about 1.5 acres worth of lawn weekly. And hauling a lot of stuff for me. Will start right up. And outwork the junk built today.
  • Might try putting it in ultra sonic cleaner and if still stuck acid dip next It usually breaks free 😊
