  • Laughed so hard at the 'meld your own ring'. My grandmother's engagement ring was a large Japanese pearl he dove for himself. The ring was capable of holding 10 supporting diamonds but only held two since it was all he could afford. The story behind it is worth more than the ring itself.
  • This actually makes me kind of sad. It used to be enough to say, "I just want to marry you now, we don't have to make a big show of it." Now we say, "I love you, but we if we don't have the money to make a giant grandiose event of our wedding, we have to put it off until we do." And every decade the traditions and standards just get more and more complicated.

I couldn't quite get past Brad wearing Trey's Gen Z glasses 😄 Congrats Jake!

In the wise words of Trey Kennedy, “Do Less, God Bless.” 😢😂

The fact that Brad helped his buddy to cover the ring says a great deal about there friendship. I LOVE THAT!!! Congratulations on the upcoming wedding!

My grandma and grandpa got married at a church with one witness. They then went to the movies. My grandma wore a nice dress suit and my grandpa a nice suit. It was nothing fancy and they were together 60+. My grandpa died near the beginning of the pandemic from dementia

Grandpa's sportin' some stylish lilac glasses, there. I like how he shouts AT ALL TIMES. I got married 28 years ago. Can't imagine all of the crap people deal with now during planning. I think grandpa's scenario sounds much more desirable. "You walk down the aisle. You say I do. She says I do. You walk back up the aisle together." Simple, really!

LOVE THIS & the inside jokes from Jake’s actual proposal. 👏🏻 And Brad KILLED IT! 🤣

🤣🤣🤣 - "if it doesn't end in 'ster' you don't need 'em". So brilliant

Congratulations on your engagement, Jake! My wedding was definitely more like Grandpa Brad's, only in 2015. My engagement ring was one of my husband's great-grandma's rings. Our wedding party was two bridesmaids and two groomsmen. Our guest list was barely 100 people. Our reception was at the local Senior Center, our food was burritos made by a family friend. Our first night was at a Super 8. We didn't do a honeymoon and my husband was back to work two days later. All in all, the cost was about $3,500 and we paid for the whole thing. But here we are, even more in love with each other than we were on that lovely, simple wedding day. And six kids later, lol! God has blessed us!
  • Wicked funny! I got married in 2009 and I spent $3,000 on everything. Got married at a restaurant with a justice of the peace. With some family and friends. Then was able to spend a week in Vegas for ourselves. Please don't go crazy for 1 friggin day .
  • Hysterical! And CONGRATS on the engagement!! I married an introvert who gave me an extremely heartfelt, totally private engagement-asking experience. :-)

Amen Grandpa! Got married in the courthouse 30 days before his first deployment. 19 years later I wouldn't change a thing!

1993 Punch, nuts, mints, cake. In the fellowship hall. Done. That’s just the way it was. Plus we were on a budget 😊
  • First off, I absolutely ADORE grandpa’s idea of a wedding, however, he’s mixed up his war story- first he was in Vietnam, then he switched over to WWII, so not sure just how old grandpa is, & finally, the best of all, congratulations to Jake on his engagement! Awesome!👍✅❤️💖💜🧡💙🫶🏻💗🫶🏻
  • Congrats on the engagement! Guess that means there’s hope for the rest of us sheltered kids ❤️
  • Best of luck to you on your wedding planning, Jake. I loved our wedding, but you couldn't pay me to plan another one. 😂
