The faces and gestures that Lilly makes gives me second hand embarrassment.

it’s weird that she insulted virgins when her audience is mostly tweens
  • i know this is an old video, but it’s just so ironic that Lilly calls the people criticizing her virgins as an insult. i remember watching one of her vlogs years ago and she said herself that she was still a virgin (at least at the time) in her late twenties and went on about how it wasn’t a big deal or something to be ashamed about. it’s just so disgusting and sad that she’s gone back on that stance now just to snap back at people criticizing her and her show.

Lele Pons: "I'm Latina" Lilly Singh: "I'm not a white man"
  • I hated when she was like “You’ve written a book, I’ve written a book as well, I know how it is, it’s hard to write a book, I did it too”
  • Lilly: constantly reminds us that she's not a white man also Lilly: formats her show like all the white men

The funniest bits from Lily are when she imitates her family members. It was slapstick and over the top but it was relatable as a child of immigrants.

Why am I so embarrassed, I’m not even the one doing the show
  • It’s interesting watching this after her interview with Anthony Padilla, where she fully admitted that she knew the jokes on her show weren’t funny and that she didn’t see herself being a TV host to begin with

Conan would actively shut up his employees saying he went to Harvard. He realized the guy that would introduce him would always say he went to Harvard, and then the audience would become much more skeptical of him and his jokes. Once the intro guy stopped that, laughs came a lot more easily for him. Lily should’ve learned from him and not be “wow I’m rich and have a mansion and am a celebrity”

The reason why they’re laughing at the build up is cos they can’t differentiate the joke and the build up

coming back to this three years later and it still upsets me that she said the only vegetable she would eat is a tomato

"part 3: the third part" was funnier than her whole talk show

That pizza joke was literally a Tumblr post from like 3 years ago

To the point of bragging on camera about being famous, it only works if you do it ironically, in a self-deprecating way. Conan is the king of self-deprecating comedy, and this is why he's so endearing. He's miles richer and more popular and than Lilly, but he STILL plays the "look what a loser I am" card whenever he's on camera. It's always about how goofy he looks, or how comically tall he is, or how Irish he is, or he pretends to be a fake creep with his female guests.

I’m so happy someone finally said this. I remember years and years ago when my friend first showed me Lily Singh’s videos. She was totally mad about her. So was everyone else around me .I tried so much to understand what people like about her videos. They failed to even make me smile…. forget about laughing. I thought maybe I’m the one whose definition of funny was different 😂.I’m an Indian and I think the only reason she became that successful was because we Indians wanted a global influencer representing India . Wish it had been someone else.
