  • When Powerpacks only cost $1k, everyone will want them, they’ll pay for themselves in less than 5 years and last 20+.
  • @alanbuck9237
I love my EV, but the problem is there’s just not enough places to charge them on a trip. Just driving from Indianapolis, Indiana to Chicago is a crapshoot and very difficult. Literally one DC charger on the route and it only has four units and frequently one or more are broken. It’s just a joke. And then in some areas, car dealers are putting in fast chargers, but that’s an early stupid place to put them. We don’t need one or two chargers sitting at every car dealer. For one thing they’re not even open a lot of the time so there’s no place to go to the bathroom or eat or anything else. And you can’t really count on one of them being available because there’s only one or two. So there’s an endless hunt trying to figure out where you can charge your car without waiting. What we need is reliable charging stations with at least eight units at least every 50 miles along major interstate highway routes. Not a bunch of chargers scattered all over the place. And the chargers need to be in a place like a truckstop where you have 24/7 amenities.
  • In Ontario Canada they just shut down the build of a 2.7 billion $ battery plant siting lack of demand in the EV market. That is the truth!!! Not fakenews!!
  • @bru512
Batteries can be used for EV's or Storage Keep making batteries
  • @rossdunn2317
If the car market shrinks massively that will have an enormous “knock on” in the real estate market - and the way new housing is built.
  • @sundell79
the ones that will use the most battery are probably storage..
  • @bwmanarific
once you have the battery packs at the chargers you can prepay for electricity usage thats stored in a battery. I know it sounds weird but the price benefit would make the charging more profitable and customers more happy
  • 04:58 Ultium batteries are pouch cells which are a known fire risk (Musk publicly warned the OEMs not to use them). They also contain cobalt.
  • @BeerStein
Tony Seba may be good but I think he misses some things. One is that these robotaxis are only going to work in dense urban areas. If you live in the country, it's going to take a long time from wherever they are based to get to your home. That's going to kill the notion even if they can drive themselves and run on free electricity.
  • Good to hear, I am concerned about Ford having an LFP battery factory in US. They need one.
  • It will take about thirty years to hit the point where 80% of Americans don’t own cars. I could see this in urban areas within 20, but no way in smaller or rural areas.
  • @davidlim5
Good for them. Can they last until 2030. ???
  • Am pro self-reliance,have a diesel van,an would gladly own an electrick van n a crossover, for picking up the kids n groceries, already make my own bio-diesel so owning an electric car that I can run from the power I get from my solar panel array is a no brainier for me,am not in the bussiness of paying more for less,n with LFP batteries,I doubt there's anything to worry about
  • Autonomous cars will not mean the end of car ownership, Autonomous cars have been promised for more than ten years already and the idea of time shared vehicles has been around even longer. Seems on that front you are whistling dixey because people are not keen nor even interests. Think the ownership of personal transportation is not challenged by the model of leasing time because that means an ongoing subscription, which is not a liberation it is a concentration into the hands of corporations. Liberation from corporations is the benefit of energy independence provided by the energy revolution.
  • Building battery factories with subsidies is a dangerous thing and anorganic in nature. Batteries are improving fast and this means that also METHODS OF PRODUCTION get outdated fast. Competitive production of EV cars by US factories has already failed, but the making of massive batteries for the US GRID will keep new US battery factories alive. YET, THESE FACTORIES MUST BE ULTIMATE INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIVE IN EV CAR-BATTERIES TO SURVIVE. THE CHINESE HAVE OUTCOMPETED THE JAPANESE/ KOREANS/ AMERICANS IN ALL INDUSTRIES, AND CATL WILL LOWER BATTERY PRICES TO A LEVEL WHICH WILL DESTROY THE US INDUSTRY.
  • I think we should move the industry from China back to Europe USA, we can have a less polluting industry thanks to the new technologies, 1950-1980 have passed, the UK moved all the industry to China during the time of Margaret Hilda Thatcher - it's time to return - Electric is the Way
  • But will America have the wiring infrastructure to support all of the EVs?
  • @Sacto1654
He's not yet completely right. Battery technology needs to be improved so they can build far smaller battery packs without sacrificing range (which means a lot smaller EV's that can go at least close to 500 km or 310 miles in range) and major improvements in DC public charger reliability are needed to make EV's a lot more acceptable.
  • Very sad, big business is firing it's customers and replacing them with robots. How many houses, cars, clothing, and sporting goods will robots purchase?? They can make plenty of items but who will buy them??
