The reason these 216 Chevrolet's were never equipped with an oil filter, is due to their extremely crude oiling system. Pressurized oil from the oil pump, usually at 30psi max, is only fed to the main bearings and the rocker shaft. The oil pan has 6 troughs that are supplied with oil through squirter tubes also supplied by the oil pump. The connecting rods, which had dippers on them would get oil when the running engine connecting rods would dip into these troughs. Otherwise known as splash oiling. Only the 235 stovebolt 6 had full pressure oiling, and used bypass oil filter.

Little valve pop , but she will run in. Best rule of thumb if it sounds like a million Bucks when you start cold. It's probably a good one.

I think what he was trying to say was , the oil went to the filter and not down the crankshaft like it needed to .😮

Why wouldn't I put an oil filter on?
