My mother passed away recently. She loved coconut in desserts. Her birthday was May 3, 1934, the day before the printed recipe for Dream Bars, May 4, 1934, shown in this video. I feel like she wanted me to see it. Thank you so much.

My mother made these every Christmas and put them in a Christmas cookie tin in the freezer. I ‘d get up in the middle of the night and sneak one or two 😊

My Grandma used to make these ☺️❤️. Thank you for reminding me of the recipe, esp since I'm becoming vintage myself 😂

I love vintage cookbooks! All I can say is "Please Ma'am, may I have more vintage recipes?" Cassaroles & Sides always intrigue me. This is good old cookin' and is easy! Thank you 😊

How about the old school coffee cake from elementary school back in the 80's?

Love this idea of vintage recipes. Brings back beautiful memories of when I cooked and baked with my mom. Before devices and other forms of entertainment. ❤

That reminds me of some butterscotch blondies I made around Christmas. They were delicious. You definitely needed to put parchment in the pan. And they did get hard on one end chewy on the other.

1963 vintage! The year I was born, lol. I guess vintage sounds better than old. Anyway, I think this series is great! I collect old cookbooks and church cookbooks. Can't wait to see more recipes!

It's funny you brought this up. When I was young, my mom had a book called Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook. When she was not making traditional foods, she would use this book for other foods and treats. Growing up, she thought she would pass these down to my sisters. As we got older, her books became lost to time. To my mother's surprise, I was baking and cooking as I got older. When I turned 45, my sister gave me one of the greatest gifts ever. She found that same cookbook my mom used when we were kids and bought it for me. I have tried to keep it in good condition, but it being old, the books are trying to die on me, lol.

I love these bars. I used to make them when my son was small. If you have any leftovers, try freezing them and then eat them right out of the freezer--whole new level of yummy.

I love vintage cookbooks! I used to love looking thru my grandma’s old cookbooks. The canned coconut was a flashback! 😂 I remember that

It’s a pleasure to see how cooking evolves over time. I get sad to see how some items no longer are made though.🙏
