In the early eighties, I met and married my high school sweetheart. His mom was the first and only person I knew who made homemade donuts from canned biscuits, topping hers with a Jiffy mix chocolate icing. She told me that she learned to make them from the cook at a local diner she worked at as a teenager. My mom was a wonderful cook too, but she had never heard of anyone doing the donuts that way either. Needless to say, in the months leading up to our wedding my mom in law helped me gain about 10 pounds. She made the chocolate iced donuts, a to die for peanut butter fudge that I have never tasted the likes of before or since, and popped popcorn on her stovetop that tasted better than movie theater popcorn. My parents, in laws, and husband are no longer with me, but this video brought back memories. I'm going to have to make these donuts for my granddaughter. Thank you for the video how to.
  • My Mom used to do this when we were growing up, but of course she used the smaller biscuits that were like 10 for a $1.00 a roll back then. I still remember her drawing them on a brown paper bag, doubt we had paper towels back then, even if they existed we couldn't afford them. They were so good, brought back lots of memories. She made glazed and sugar and cinnamon and we helped her.

Great tip on how to make donuts! I should have never clicked here because now I'm gonna want to fix them too much! My husband works for General Mills who makes these biscuits. He brings free cans home when they give them out. We have several cans right now! Lolol
  • "Make sure the inside cooks before the outside burns." Very important tip. Thank you for posting this and the glaze.

WOW! I'm am 60 and I have 2 younger sisters. My father made the best donuts ever. And they were made from the cheapest biscuits. We made regular donuts. And we made donut holes. It is one of the best memories of my life from my father. Hugs from Texas 😎
  • My grandma used to make them. awesome She called them womp donuts, because you had to womp the can on the edge of the counter to open it up.

Ive made these stuffed with raspberry jam and powdered outside. They’re fantastic!
  • My dad made these for us on weekends. He just made a plate of regular sugar and cinnamon. Out of the oil, they were rolled in the sugar and served warm. Oh my! Great memories :)
  • Great hack! I remember one from my childhood as well. Take Jiffy cake mix and add a little more flour to achieve a dough consistency. Roll into balls or use a small ice cream scooper. Fry, then roll in either powdered sugar or cinnamon/sugar mixture. Next, turn on the t.v. for some Saturday morning cartoons. Oh, and some Nestle Quick chocolate milk too. Enjoy.

If you don’t add any icing, these are a perfect way to make Hungarian Langos (fry bread) smear it with garlic and eat with Chicken Paprikas and you’re in Hungarian hog heaven. My favorite home meal growing up

In the early 80. I was a new Mom. My hubby got a" Fry Daddy" used to make these but not the glaze like you do. Yum. We woud just dip them hot into sugar, or cinnomon/sugar. I will make the glaze when the grands come. Looks so good. Thank you for reminding us about this blast from the past.
  • Oh boy!! You brought back memories of my childhood! My mom use to make can biscuit donuts with the cinnamon and granulated sugar mixture, they were so good my mouth is watering just remembering! You have inspired me to make these this weekend with my son, he’s gonna love them! Thank you!
  • My son loves making these! When he was in high school, he’d make them before school and bring them to his first class. He said the girls loved him and hated him (diet). 🤣😂🤣 Easiest and tastiest doughnuts!! He liked to make a chocolate glaze for his.
  • My Mom made these for us. Im 41 and have toddlers. This is so nostalgic for me. Thanks for sharing!
  • My Mom cooked these in the 60’s. We loved them, and you’re right! They were quick, easy and delicious! ❤ My Mom passed away 2 years ago. Oh how I wish she were here. I’d make them for her now! 😊
  • I'm 65 yrs old and my mom use to make these kind of donuts also when I was little. the biscuit dough was not this brand but everyone sure loved them. thank you for the memories. I had already forgotten about this simple donut recipe . ❤
