Honestly, I like how they don't say "I love you" back. He knows they do. He didn't need the reciprocation as much as he needed to regain his ability to love. Now he has, and they know it.

If you look closely @2:28 you can see an homage to the original character design of Electro from the comics. These are the cool little details in movies I long for.
