They told us to "Eat the Rich", flaunted their wealth online and were then shocked when we took a bite.

Sarah's post was honestly about as out of touch as Steven saying that $5.99 was affordable to everyone, especially with the context of the wedding cost and her humble bragging about the damn tote bag. I get that she wanted to defend her husband and his business partners, but this was just not the way to do it. Guilt tripping people with the mention of fair wages is such a low blow, that shit breaks trust even further than the og announcement video did. If you want to pay your people fair wages, then maybe you shouldn't hire more people than you can pay fairly. Seems like simple math to me
  • @annalong9741
I find it extremely funny that she says this needs to happen for people to be paid fairly. Does Steven lim need an expensive car to live? No. No he doesn’t. Not at all
  • @bnkaya
She thinks paying 100$ for a tote back is fine what type of survivable living is that lmao
  • Never a good idea to unpromptly interfere with your partners career. What I am hearing: "We need livable wages." What I am seeing: A Tesla. Three different wedding dresses. A 50k wedding location. Two new hires. Steven flying around to eat food that cost more than others make in a year... What I am not seeing: Getting rid of overly costly formats that no one cares about. Not laying off staff you can't afford. Moving your business to a more affordable place than effing LA. Downsizing production cost by focusing on formats the viewers actually want (polls). Having a more attractive Patron tier system. And so on and so forth... I have only subscribed again to see the stuff when it comes out for free a month later. I was thrilled the first time I saw the apology but after having time to reflect including Saras attitude regarding the whole thing. Feels like trying it again after having been cheated on by your partner. You wanna try but deep down you already know it's over.
  • After thinking about it... I don't think I will be subscribing back to watcher. I have watched and rewatched the apology video... I honesty call bullshit that a streaming service was their only reasonably option. Saying that if they didn't do this they would need to shut down the channel... I just don't think thats honest.

One of the best responses I saw was “shut up Sarah”
  • @AddysonSabyn
What's crazy is, they have 25 employees, yet they still hire independent contractors to film them on site when they shoot at haunted locations. Like no one on your staff can operate a camera??? I agree, they need a manager to budget for them.
  • @afriendorfoe
My theory is they hired too many ppl, economy isnt doing well, they live in LA so its one of the most expensive places, then they are overspending. Its catching up and like they said they dont want to lay their friends off
  • @grimmick9446
Second comment, but yep seriously. I got two young kids and just left homelessness. We got evicted cuz my partner was laid off during my pregnancy. Like we may now be stable , but living in Florida with two kids as younger parents , I can't afford shit. So the fact she said the words "survivable wage" with the life style they have. Ooooo killed me . I'm not sure how I feel anymore about them
  • You missed the tags she added, that was the most frustrating part for me. It was like "#I think most people think all youtubers have mr beast money #this is not the case" like yeah no shit Sara. Do they think we're stupid? Great vids on this btw
  • @pettykittyfam
Again showing how disconnected to the real world they have become. The celebrities were singing John Lennon's Imagine 🙄🙄🙄 It was so cringe 😬
  • Sara's post was a bit out of touch. When I was growing up, my family was one paycheck away from living on the streets. We didn't have money for $100 tote bag or for a wedding venue that is 50K. We still don't. We live within our means. But she doesn't appear to have a clue what true survival on a tiny paycheck means. Otherwise, she would spend her money more wisely. It definitely appears that they don't know how to manage their money. The Watcher, just from their 13k Patreons alone, are making about $90,000 a month. That is way more than what I make in a year. And this amount does not include the ads from their sponsors, live tours, or the merch they sell. I realize they have about 20 to 25 employees and maybe all of that revenue doesn't go very far, but why do they need so many employees? These are just observations, I don't know exactly what all of their costs are. I can only speak on what I see as an outsider looking in, but something doesn't appear to add up.
  • @cathyharvey4
Shane and Sarah's $55,000 wedding, I got married at the court house. "Eat the Rich" smh.
  • @kayeliza98
If what she says is true, to choose to over hire and not being able to cover wages is a business problem. Realistically, they already have as much creative freedom as would be possible in terms of the shows they want to make and how much they want to spend on them. If they can’t cover wages, why did Adam and Andrew just get hired? I understand they want to grow, but the books are theirs to balance, not ours. Not sure what more they could be asking for. Also, I really like Ryan and Shane. But things like the food content especially are not exactly revolutionary. I saw a more recent video on their feed about trying British snacks for the first time. I watched at least 50 of those videos on YouTube back in 2012.
  • I think Sara and everyone at Watcher really just missed the point on all of it. When literally EVERYONE ELSE in your industry can make quality content with their same budget then something’s wrong with THEM! They fucked up their business with not only separating themselves from their fans but also basically putting out a statement to their whole industry that they have NO idea how to run their own business! Now every advertiser is going to try to low ball them and no one is going to be asking to work with them because a business that doesn’t know how to separate their feelings from their business is literally a business doomed to fail. Now they apologized but its only going to be a short time before they HAVE to try some other way to get more money because they have basically paid to get their own website out to get ZERO money from it (patreon is getting it for free and i can’t imagine anyone who wasn’t on their patreon is buying into it now. No one is going to want their merch after this and people are already asking for refunds to their live shows. They are fucked financially.)
