Trump’s Classified Documents Case Has Been Dismissed. Now What? | Amanpour and Company

Publicado 2024-07-18
Earlier this week, Trump-appointed federal judge Aileen Cannon dismissed the classified documents case against the former president, citing her doubts about the appointment of special counsel Jack Smith. The backlash has been furious, with many criticizing what is seen as a delay strategy. To piece together how this action could impact Trump's presidential campaign and the integrity of America’s legal system, Hari Sreenivasan spoke with Leah Litman, law school professor at the University of Michigan.

Former CIA Director (resigned) and retired General David Petraeus, was fined $100,000 and placed on 2 years probation for the unauthorized removal and retention of classified material which he shared with his biographer/lover Paula Broadwell. Under a plea agreement he avoided prison time.

Reminds me of how our Ww2 Dad said Germany/ Europe failed in the 30s…
  • All these scholars constantly expose the nonsense and yet, here America spins in the wind.
  • There was an indication that Clarence Thomas was going to be the target of a special counsel. What he did at a minimum deserves scrutiny.

The American justice system is broken... corrupt. Read Sarah Kendzior's "Hiding In Plain Sight" and "They Knew" to learn more. She's also on Substack.

  • Jack Smith has filed a appeal the 11th Circuit so the last thing is not said yet.
  • Now we figure out how to remain calm, informed, resistant in a dystopian America.

So, where the documents now? Have these documents been compromised?
  • Your opening paragraph which included the words, "The Trump appointed federal judge....", bewilders anyone living in a western-style democracy other than the US. Judges may well be nominally answerable to the Legislature in some other democracies, but are de facto appointed by a non-partisan body made up of senior judges and legal experts. Is the doctrine of Division of Powers not respected in the US?
