How thieves bypass immobilisers

Bike thefts have been on the increase for some time now.
One thing I've wondered for a while is how do they start them when they're fitted with an immobiliser, surly this tech will stop a scumbag starting your pride and joy without a key, unfortunately, this isn't the case and the reality is, it's much easier than you'd like to think.

  • This needs to be sent to MCN ,let them contact Yamaha and see what they have to say. Simply not good enough being fobbed off by Yamaha

Had my garage broken into while i worked a 12 hour shift, bike stolen, thousands in tools and gear stolen, thousands in damage done, had video of the thief and being a local i even knew his name and the block of flats he lived in but not which exact flat, police took days to turn up only to say "what do you expect us to do about it we don't have time to look for him" when i literally gave them everything they needed to find the prick and they also told me that he had warrants out already.. simply didn't give a shit. Yet they have plenty of time and resources to set up speed traps, pull us over 24/7 claiming we are speeding just because we have a loud engine and exhaust system, all the time in the world to do random stops and check our insurance etc and say "how do we know the bike isn't stolen", all the time in the world to hand out fixed penalty notices like fucking confetti, basically plenty of resources for things that make money but none for things which cost money... absolute disgrace.
  • The light switch was just to turn the ignition on. It’s actually a immobiliser emulator chip that they plugged in under the tank to bypass security
  • To be honest if your bike doesn't have a GPS tracker fitted then you never had it in the first place. No amount of locks will keep them safe in a public place but at least you can find it with a tracker. I've had 4 bikes stolen over a few years and I've recovered all 4. The trackers I use also have a remote engine cutoff so once I have the bike in sight I can disable the engine( important note not to disable the engine until you can see the bike as the scroats will tear it apart or wreck it if it won't run).
  • Its not just a light switch though, you should do an update on this. The immobiliser defeat units can be bought online and plugged in. The switch is purely for switching the ignition on. They pull the wires off the back of the ignition unit and wire to the switch. Tidier than smashing the lock out
  • I had my first MT10 stolen a year and a day after buying it brand new. They came into my works 'secure' carpark by giving a bullshit name, then 3 lads lifted it into the van, then pretty much drove through the barrier to get out. Near 18 months later and it's never been traced. It's frightening how easy the security system is to bypass.
  • I had a mate who bricked up his garage door and used to ride his R1 through the house tot he garage to ensure it was secured. It fitted on a tuntable in the garage and was ground anchored front and rear. They cut through the brickwork early hours in the morning and ground off the locks - no one heard a thing. If they want to get it - they'll get it., but if you catch them - chop their thumbs off.
  • I wonder if hidden wiring the chains in my garage up to the mains to deliver a lethal shock to any would be theif would be frowned upon in court....?
  • So sorry to hear guys, I have an mt03 & live in Australia, I've have had my car vandalised a number of times, an e-bike stolen.
  • This isn’t how your bike is started believe me. That’s just a switch as your bike has been hotwired. If you leave the wires dangling around and they touch the frame it will fuse the bike. Your bike has been started via an immobiliser emulator this plugs onto your chip reader (the ring around the ignition). They plug a device onto this and then Hotwire it like they used to do back in the 80/90’s. that shitty diy home style switch has been fitted for convenience for the thief to switch the bike on/off instead off joining/undoing the wires every time. Mines was taken the same way the device is £25 off fleabay
  • I've just had one stolen, I'm in burnley and I found who these people are and it was bought by lads in Bury and it went to Manchester b4 London. They are all connected through social media.
  • I leave my bike parked near the corner, I custom made a piece of wood that goes from top to bottom removed the seat, and the battery, I also installed a bypass for fuel that empties the gas tank (But I am not that paranoid I only do it when I'm out of town) There's some ppl That I know they just take the brake pads off and I guess that helps a little too You just never know Can't be too careful
  • To start any mt’s above the 125 fitted with an immobliser you have to buy a emulator which bypasses the ecu unit and when you plug it in where the immobliser is and then you start it by hotwiring but iff you don’t have the emulator the bike just keeps keeps ticking over because it has no power to the bike because the ecu is blocking power to get the engine
  • Legend has it........these two "poms" are still standing there whinging to this very day!🤣
  • @DaBuzz92
I have replaced pins in socket and plug from immobiliser module. Now only my module fits to my bike. If someone try to connect bypass it won't work because pins from dedicated bypass module does not fit to my bike harness. But it will take some time to figure out what is wrong with cabling - if thief pick up your bike (for example by using skateboards onder wheels or just put bike into VAN) - bike is lost ;( Allways lock your bike with solid chain to something what can not be moved in easy way... Regards! :)
  • @x1tekja
Install and hide a couple of kill switches of your own.. They may vandalize and steal whatever is easy but you won't have a total loss.. Pro tip and better luck on your next bike hope your insurance makes good for you sorry about your loss
  • Clucking bell, that simple that shocking, cheers for the vlog...
  • When my yamaha n max 2022was stolen last month they shit themselves as they had no idea what they was doing.i was able to find it the next day having a tracker in it.
  • Little can be done about physical removal. There used to be a Tracker package that alert on movement by SMS then you have to follow the thieves then call the police etc. Same technology from eBay for less than £30.
