This guy looks like he does magic for the mafia.

RIP to the King of Cards. Thanks for all the great shows, Ricky.

There aren't any camera tricks, you are just watching someone who is a true virtuoso in his art. He has been practicing and studying card magic since he was 4, and he studied with some of the best magicians who ever lived. This isn't one trick, or a single prearranged deck, its a series of perfectly executed sleights, brought seamlessly together into this beautiful performance, which is what a great artist does. Any great jazz musician has studied for decades, practiced, practiced, studied with better musicians, etc. and only after all those years are they able to construct something truly breathtaking as a result of that deep knowledge and experience. Ricky Jay is one of the world's great artists. Enjoy the sense of wonder and amazement for what it is: a great thing.

This video has become sort of meditation for me. There is just something about this video; the pure lack of music, talking and wow-effects, but simply the natural sounds of a deck of cards together with the elegance of the trick that gives me the chill vibe...been watching it in bed every time I have a hard time falling asleep, and it tucks me in every time :)

The craziest thing about it, and it's a real compliment to Ricky Jay, is that he could come up with a story to go along with this routine that make it even more impressive than it already is. He's as good with the sell, the patter, as he is with the sleight of hand routines, and he's a bona fide Grand Master of Grand Masters. There aren't many like him, even close to his level, in any generation.

Ricky Jay should do one of those ASMR videos where he just shuffles cards for half an hour.
  • @owen1686
Who else throughout the video was like: oh hey thats pretty neat But then in the end: HOLY SHIT
  • @GoreCrowVII
I love how the whole time he's looking at YOU like HE suspects YOU of trying something "funny".
  • @Edser9
I would love someone to restore this into a clean HD vid
  • There really is no other video like this out there. It is so mysterious yet relaxing and there is so much told without any words being said. The sounds are so soothing and the movement of his hands are so intriguing . I think it's an art and definitely what he was going for when he made this video. I wish more people made awesome stuff like this

Rest in peace, big guy. You were a prodigious talent in an underappreciated field. You will be missed.

RIP Ricky Jay - you were the very best. Thanks for all the great performances. I will remember your keen wit and your excellence with a deck of cards.
  • he is doing this for real. no camera edits. he once calculated that he has had a deck of cards in his hands for over 30 years non stop if you took all his practice time and added it up. . . he is a complete master. Maybe the best card handler that has ever lived
  • Hard to believe he’s gone. I bought his book Cards as Weapons back in the day and it changed my life. A true master of his craft, he will be missed 🌹

I had the honour of meeting this man, and we talked for a while and I showed him this video. I asked him if he used any Stripper decks or a deck switch or some sort of gimic. He replied to me saying "The only gimics I used in that trick were my two hands"

I have been doing card magic for a decade and I can follow maybe 70% of what he is doing here with multiple viewings but it still blows me away. There is no camera trickery, he really is that good. Catching the card between the next two is amazing even if you do know the sleight. Makes my suit production look like amatuer hour. Ricky jay is one of the best. I highly recommend checking out lennart greens Ted talk as he does some mind blowing stuff as well. Mr Jay, I salute you.

I've found the Bob Ross of cards

The people saying this involves "camera tricks" haven't done their research. If you're studying card tricks / magic how dare you insult this man's legacy by suggesting there was anything other than pure learned skill.
