Super Mario 3D World carries a lot of the same design philosophy as the Galaxy games. But, is that enough to consider it a full-on sequel?

Hey, everyone, thanks for watching. I tried to cram as much as I could in 20 minutes, but of course, I can always go deeper into this or similar subjects. If you want to see more videos like this, just let me know. You're feedback is highly appreciated.
  • Plot twist: The real Mario Galaxy 3 is Super Mario 3D LAND.
  • Rosalina in 3D World is INSANE! It blew my mind as a kid, and personally she seems pretty underrated (probably because you only unlock her at the end of the game, and her main gimmick can't be used with powerups). I would HIGHLY recommend playing through the game as Rosalina without powerups. Her spin allows for a TON of really satisfying movement options (especially in the remake, where they increased movement speed and added the dive, ground pound jump, and spin jump from odyssey).

The true Mario Galaxy 3 was the friends we made along the way...
  • Well, shouldn’t it be galaxy 4,considering 3D land exsists?
  • The lore of 3d world is so fun 3D Land takes from Galaxy, Mario 3, and hints of Mario 64 3D World takes from 3D Land(there is literally a special world thats based on this gane with the overworld theme), Galaxy(all cause of Rosalina and the special worlds), hints of Mario 3, and hints of Mario 64 If you really pay attention to 3D Land some of the ost is literally a replica from Galaxy or Mario 3, while 3D world has a lot more unique tracks but most came from Galaxy and 3D Land

I think any possible cool thing that Nintendo could put into Mario Galaxy 3 could be put into any other 3D Mario game as well, so I think it's pointless to ask for a Mario Galaxy 3, I just want a new 3D Mario as good as possible and I don't care about its title. Even Mario Odyssey has some linear stuff challenges here and there
  • i always thought of 3D land as a pocket galaxy game! now makes a lot of sense! 😅
  • As a kid I always called those ruby rock things "Poop-Covered Cherries." So... Uh... Yeah. Make of that what you will.
  • honestly i prefer galaxy 1s mixture of both open linear fusion rather than galaxy 2s more linear design

I was thinking about this idea on my most recent playthrough, especially with rosalina being playable.

welp.. guess i gotta play 3D World again😅
  • I strongly disagree with your framing of 3D Land and World as sterilised and less special than other 3D Mario games. A focused platforming experience is not inherently inferior or more "corporate" compared to Galaxy's more spectacle and story-focused approach. Personally I found a lot of those aspects of Galaxy superfluous and they hurt the platforming experience. I don't want to read the backstory of a side character that doesn't impact the gameplay at all, and I especially don't want control taken away from me so I can be forced into a cutscene of Mario flying through space multiple times per level. For me 3D Land and World just trimmed the fat off the Galaxy games and are easily the better experiences as a result. 3D World's level design and controls are fantastic and its presentation, while less epic than Galaxy's, clearly still had a lot of effort and soul put into it. To describe the game as just "Mario but cat" is like saying Mario 3 is just "Mario but racoon". Basically, I'm really glad 3D World isn't Galaxy 3. Otherwise, great video, editing and audiowise etc.
  • For me what makes a Mario Galaxy game fun are the planetoids and gravity base gameplay
