In today's video we discuss old vs new versions of Minecraft: Java Edition. I'll to be as unbiased as possible, talking more about gameplay, design, and purpose instead of general changes like blocks, mobs, items, etc.

What's you're favorite version of Minecraft Java or Bedrock? Also, any like and comment is heavily appreciated, helps with the YouTube Algorithm :) (All credits, music links, social media stuff, is in the description of this video)

Wow, GREAT video man. I am an Alpha and Beta player. I do think this game had a special charm that is almost lost now. But you explained it very well in the video. Also awesome to see that you got an interview with another Alpha player!

I actually completely agree with these points! I try to explain to my friends why older Minecraft is so much better but they never seam to get it. Next time I’ll just send them this video! Thanks so much!

Well said. To me, old Minecraft feels more about survival and creative freedom, whereas new Minecraft is more about exploration. Sure, you can argue you have hardcore mode for survival and always can do whatever you want. Part of what makes Minecraft so great is the fact you make your own rules and goals. But there is just something about the old versions that stands out. Pure nostalgia aside (as I am an alpha og), the older versions had superior terrain to explore, no hunger system but a more skill based healing mechanic, and overall a more "dangerous" and lonely vibe

Nice job! It takes a lot of work to make videos like these!

Really great quality video man, I really enjoyed it!
  • this is a really good and interesting video! Keep it up! I like playing older versions more than newer ones

i think the best part about Java is that you can go back in time and play on older versions.. whether it's because you prefer the combat style, world generation, version specific mods, no hunger bar, achievements instead of advancements, or just the plain fact that some versions are laggier than others... every version has at least something that some players do and don't like... for me ideally it'd be 1.14 because of the villagers, but i usually find myself playing on 1.12 instead because it runs smoother

Amazing video, I too noticed the feel of old MC, I, for example, started playing with mods like modern_beta and hunger remover, to get the old feels back, while keeping the good stuff from modern MC, like all the blocks and biomes. Truly amazing stuff. Feels great and difficult, would recommend. Great video, 10/10.

this is a FANTASTIC video. I love how you didn't totally roast the early versions because of a few flaws

I've been gone for a bit, and the quality of these videos are so much better!

for me 1.13 is my favorite version of Minecraft. I started playing in 1.12 on my Wii U, I absolutely loved Minecraft. I always had fun playing splitscreen with my little brother and Minecraft would be all I would talk about with my friends. When 1.13 came around, It was so freaking cool. The ability to swim, turtles, coral reefs, tropical fish, buried treasure and sunken ships were all great additions. I have so many fun memories of waking up on Saturday morning with my brother and just playing some Minecraft 1.13. The pvp was also very fun, the maps were so cool and making a friend online by giving them armor or crouching repeatedly was the best thing ever. Going back and playing that version on my Wii U to this day has me enjoying the game more than when playing with the newer updates. There was just a simplicity to Minecraft that I loved. Another reason I think its better is just because of nostalgia, 1.13 was my most played version and the version I grew up on. The funny thing is, I never got to experience 1.14 and 1.15 when they were released because the Wii U stopped receiving updates after the aquatic update. When I finally got the game on PC and Xbox with the 1.16 update right around the corner, I just didn't enjoy Minecraft as much anymore. I still have fun with Minecraft especially when I play with my friends on the big server we have but I just don't find the same enjoyment as I used to. Probably because I have grown up and moved on to now play games such as Halo, Crysis, Titanfall 2, Apex Legends, Valorant and similar games. Sorry for the essay, to anyone who reads this, I would love to hear what your favorite version is and why (:
  • whenever i play older versions i definitely feel like the world is more dangerous. I think this is due to my experiences as a beginner back in 2013, but there is some difference between pre 1.0 and post 1.0
