  • Definitely will add this to my recipes. The only thing I would do differently is boil the oxtails first to get the fat out of them, then rinse them, put them back into the pot and then begin making the soup. Peace!

I grew up in the upper midwest - my mother made this a lot during the cold winters. Nobody in those parts ever heard of it. I make mine like yours except I omit the noodles, and I too use rutabaga, but I add one diced turnip and a medium sweet potato. I also start with fresh veggies, but frozen works too. Best soup on a cold day. It tastes even better the next day. Enjoyed your video. Making this today,

I made this yesterday. The best oxtail soup I have ever eaten. The rutabaga made it so creamy and the flavor makes you want to keep eating it. Love, love, love this .
  • OMG Ms. Chris! You might not believe this, but I went to the meat market on Friday and I purchased some oxtails and told my husband I was going to make some oxtail stew/soup. I make mines the same way accepted I've never used rutabaga or noodles. We have more leftover so I froze some but I think I'm going to add noodles to the pot for today's meal and next I'll make it with the rutabaga as well. It was sooooo good. Like your mom, my mom use to make this as well! Thanks again for inviting us into your kitchen! Good bless.

This soup is banging! I cooked it for the first time and everyone loved it. You are so right the "rutabaga"is the key. Thank you.....this has become my favorite for the fall and winter time months.
  • @QIKWIA
Ms.Chris always has something delicious cooking on top of that stove! 💖

There is nothing better than soups and stews all winter long. The sky is the limit for combos of meat and veggies. I believe rutabegas and parsnips are two under appreciated veggies...and maybe fennel bulbs too (and celery root and that radishy white tuber). Most ppl don't realize fennel is ENTIRELY edible from the fronds, stalk and bulb. This dish looks DELISH...Thanks!!!
  • Yummmmyyyyyy, we have a bowling lane here where they serve Oxtail stew and everybody just love it. Gotta put this on my menu to make. GOD bless you, Chris.

Oxtails are such an underrated meat. But cooking them properly the way you do just makes for a delicious, hearty winter meal. Haven't eaten oxtails for YEARS but I'm certainly going to try this recipe for sure! Thanks again Miss Chris....:)
  • @Longeno55
Your Ox tail soup recipe looks amazing Chris! I make this a delicious soup lot myself, but I never knew about the rutabaga and have never added okra to it, but from now on I will. Thank you!

Miss Christ, just came from the grocery store and purchased all the ingredients that I needed for this soup, including a can of corn for my muffins. This is what I am having for Sunday dinner.I did not want my usual menu, such as collards, peas etc.Thank you for this recipe. Love all your videos.
  • @UPThoney4Life
Omg, that looks so good!! Reminds me of my grandmother’s beef soup. I’m definitely making this in the next couple days. Thank you.
  • I love your channel because I am always learning something. "rutabaga". I grow up in a small town in texas and my mom use to cook oxtail all the time and we would not eat the oxtail. As a adult now I did not know what I was missing back then. Now it cost you a arm and leg for oxtail. Thanks again Ms. Chris.
  • Oxtail stew is one of my favorite things to make, but this oxtail soup is a really different take on it, and I cannot wait to try it out! Thank you, Chris, for the tip about the rutabagas. I had no idea.
