My dad passed away last week and his funeral was today. He loved the pipes although he never really got to learn them. He loved celtic history and culture. Hearing this as we loaded his coffin away was…tough. “Going Home” will always hold a dear place in my heart. I love you dad.

my father passed away in January. This song was played as we brought his casket into the ceremony site at Fort Logan National Cemetery. I am a piper myself and I cried my eyes out that day. Miss you, dad. All my love.

Played at my father's funeral. It was in a Catholic church, and the procession was about to begin, and the power went out right at that moment due to a storm. The bagpiper had to improvise, and began playing "Going Home." As a pallbearer, and as a son, it was haunting, and comforting all at the same time. I'll never forget it.

My uncle was the youngest sibling of my dad, and life's cruelties took him from us long before any of us were ready.. My dad played this song as he walked away from all of us, because he's the strongest man I've ever known. Rest well, Uncle. <3

This was played at my father’s funeral in northern Maine twenty-three years ago. When I heard it again I was back on that hillside as we put him into the ground. His grandfather, though American, was mostly Scottish in ancestry and my father was very close to him growing up. Dad spent much of his youth out on his grandparents farm and I assume he requested this be played at his burial to honor what was so dear to him.

My dad loved the bagpipes. He never learned to play them but I seem to remember him playing this song on a recorder. He passed away only a month ago. Just remembering some of his favorite songs...
  • Going home, going home I am going home Quiet like, some still day I am going home It's not far, just close by Through an open door Work all done, care laid by Never fear no more Mother's there expecting me Father's waiting too Lots of faces gathered there All the friends I knew I'm just going home No more fear, no more pain No more stumbling by the way No more longing for the day Going to run no more Morning star light the way Restless dreams all gone Shadows gone, break of day Real life has begun There's no break, there's no end Just living on Wide awake, with a smile Going on and on, going on and on Going home, going home I am going home Shadows gone, break of day Real life has begun I'm just going home
  • Going home was played by a piper at my dad’s funeral. Being a Scotsman it was a fitting tribute. This piper plays it well.

Every time I watch any bagpipe video, it always brings me to tears, and I'm no way afraid to admit that. Been Scottish myself it makes me immensely proud to watch this instrument be played not only correctly, but incredibly well. You are a very talented played
  • Thank you Scotland for all that you have done for England and the rest. Battle of Waterloo, Battle of New Orleans, WW1 and WW2 : not forgetting the engineers - scientists - surgeons and all who contributed so much to the wealth, knowledge, and greatness to Britain as a whole.

Beautiful and haunting at the same time. We played this at my brothers funeral after he had passed away on October 13th 2019 ..... I still haven’t stopped crying. He was a 48 year old father of two boys, was unexpected, even though he suffered immensely in the last 10 years. RIP my big brother and best friend ...... til we meet again soldier 💔 XO

Beautifully done, young man. And in the cold, too. That's skill. One of the best renditions of Going Home I've ever heard.

My grandfather has gone home today on Good Friday of 2020. He is home with the Lord now.
  • I'm not scottish but I served in the RAF and was posted to RAF Leuchars and any parade was led by the station pipe band ,being led by the pipes always made the marching easier and the music was always great .

One of the most beautiful sounds I’ve ever heard…the pipes always hit me in a way no other music can 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

This was played at a fellow flight paramedic’s funeral. He was the first that I personally knew that has perished on duty helping his fellow man. ‘Til Valhalla Brother!
