Alright, it's time we talk about Mojang. 1.19.1 is shaping up to be the worst Minecraft update of all time, adding a poorly implemented player reporting feature that could lead to dozens or hundreds of people getting false banned from all of their worlds. Mojang has clearly been in a rough spot recently and I decided to talk about it. I hope you enjoyed the video!

  • This video is quite a bit late, but hopefully y'all still enjoyed it regardless, this is my first time doing any real editing in 6 months, so it'll probably not be the best video, hopefully it's decent enough. New videos as soon as I can get them out!!! Huge Thanks to my Patrons: Split, CaucasianCrustacean, Praxibetl, and MKJ, y'all are awesome but I got hit with really bad allergies last couple days and forgot to do it on Recording day, my bad! Remember when Mojang discovered that cookies poisoned parrots, so they changed what parrots ate instead of removing cookies?

Fun fact: 10 years ago the plugin that done pretty similar thing as multiplayer ban now existed. If player was banned on 3 servers running that plugin, it was banned from all servers running the plugin. What went wrong? Some players decided to exploit this. They were creating small servers with the plugin, and banning people from them for no reason. After some time, the creator of the plugin got banned. And he decided to delete the plugin for good. From this time, to minecraft 1.19.1 snapshots, there was no such thing as multiplayer ban.

As a MCPE player, or more broadly a Bedrock player, one of the greatest betrayals by Mojang (to me at least) was the addition of Render Dragon. It wrenched what shaders we had from our hands and forced an "RTX or nothing" agenda on us. I currently only own Pocket Edition, so while RTX is beautiful, it's not an option for me and many other players. I'm worried that we may never regain support for third-party shaders, and that the RTX thing was some sort of alliance between Microsoft and Nvidia. They knew it'd remove functionality for shaders, yet instead of making it optional or releasing the code for new third-party shaders to be created, they forced it on us. It still hurts, and as a builder who loves the beautifying ability of shaders, it was a huge blow to my gaming experience.
  • Worst case scenario, this can be completely overthrown by setting the server to offline mode and then using a cracked client to connect. Even if you get globally banned you will still be able to play on servers set to offline mode through a cracked client. And the server admin can just reassign your items back to you by reassigning the player data. There is literally nothing microsoft can do to completely kill your ability to play on all servers. Even if they take the offline mode out of newer server versions there are still older server versions that still have offline mode.
  • While a lot of these examples are pretty annoying, none of them are as bad as how poorly mojang treats bedrock edition, with major bugs they stal on or openly refuse to fix, and their hyper fixation on the marketplace.

one thing that ticked me off before this entire debuckle was how they abandoned the combat tests, if anyone remembers the 1.16 fork it was experimental changes that worked to fix combat by greatly nerfing shields, increasing swing speeds, stackable potions, returning snowball knockback and varying attack ranges and damage to rebalance axes, swords and hoes. they recieved good feedback from the community and when it came to the next updates they were just never implemented, then the next update came and it was missing features so they coulda moved the combat test features in to fill things out, then the next update was literally caves and cliffs part 3 with even fewer features and now instead of fixing issues with the game like pvp, the entire reason why they were made to begin with they work on chat reporting. i get that its most likely a microsoft mandate, but maybe like make it a less bitter pill to swallow by also adding quality of life changes? all 19.1 is doing is actively making the game worse and scamming people out of their purchase.

This video does a good job encapturing how I feel about Mojang at the moment. I was so optimistic—I remember sitting down with my brother to watch Minecon Live, seeing them announce Caves and Cliffs and the fun time we had. I didn't even notice it at the time, but Mojang was one of the only companies that I trusted 100%. It almost hurts to see the slow downfall of my most nostalgic game, and I really hope they just... stop what they're doing, and listen to the community. I've repeated this next sentiment because it is a good sentiment—as a Minecraft and Terraria fan, the contrast between what's going on in each community is staggering. The Terraria devs are so receptive to the community and so happy to add things people want. I know Terraria isn't quite as big as Minecraft, but I also don't necessarily think that's a valid excuse for the terrible job they're doing at... everything right now. So at the end of the day, when I think about the situation, I just feel sad. It's genuinely made me stop playing Minecraft as much, and that's a weird feeling. I feel a distinct draw to just move on to other games and leave Minecraft to rot... but in the back of my mind, I'm still waiting for them to write a community post, or a tweet, that relieves at least some of the worries. It feels like an unrealistic hope though, sadly.

Imagine joining a random server getting mass reported and now you're banned from every server and your own realm
  • @ImScorpy
I'll never understand why they removed fireflies. "Frogs don't eat them in real life" Then make them not eat them in-game.
  • Honestly, for me, the first red flags were them dropping C418 due to licensing issues and refusing to add sharks to the game due to "realism." Of course, the game was still only impacted a minor bit by these developments. Then came the dreaded account migration. Of course, the Caves and Cliffs fiasco certainly doesn't help, and the fact that it all happened in the prelude to chat reporting certainly highlights its importance in the fall of Mojang, but I really see this as a much slower, longer term problem of a different vision for the future of Minecraft. One that is more child friendly, corporate, and misses the point that the original game nailed so well - a game where what features were added purely depended on whether they fit the vibe of Minecraft, where the player was the most important component of all, where the whole Minecraft community (not just major content creators or mainstream servers) was considered vital for the future of the game. Now the true vision for the future of Minecraft is as clear as ever. Needless to say, it will take a massive effort to reign things in to what they once were, and sadly I doubt that will occur. This next dark age for Minecraft may very well be permanent.

see, we need a break from all these huge big updates, and just add a small but very game changing update. i present the ambience update. the ambience update would basically add a revamp to most textures, to make them look nicer, and add new one. this update could also maybe add small structures to add to the worlds story (lore and aesthetics) and make it more fun to play in. it could also add some small animals and blocks to make certain biomes look better, such as, squirrels, table mushrooms, birds, etc. overall i think this would be a really cool update, and it would restore the Minecraft community's faith in Mojang!
  • Talk about how realms Java and especially Bedrock are not well made leading to chat and other text related features being broken because of the censor feature
  • @vorlexium
3:12 Cookies are poisonous to parrots so I guess we have to remove parrots...
  • @Xynam0
Why is everything from my childhood getting worse or just straight up dying?
  • Thank you for the video. Minecraft was a beautiful and priceless part of my life and even though these changes wouldn't affect me, I cannot longer agree with the ideology driving development of the game. I am strongly against giving one corporation more and more control and I feel it's time for me to make tough, but needed decision to stop my further support. It was a pleasure being part of the Minecraft community, thank you!
  • @Cxsonn
I feel like Microsoft is forcing Mojang to implement features into Minecraft that Mojang doesn’t won’t to add. I assume that Microsoft is attempting to implement some sort of moderation system to Minecraft: Java Edition, similar to what they’ve done and continue to do with Minecraft: Bedrock Edition. In Bedrock, they pretty much monitor and censor anything “bad” that any players say. I don’t want things like this to happen to Java.
  • There are a lot of problems in the mojang development at these times. Solution is just mod it so hard that minecraft has literal forks for their versions yet it is still vanilla
  • Bro, during the Notification part around 7:00. I though something terrible had happened in Discord, I jumped in real life lol!
  • @flying-cacti
You mentioning that they ditched fireflies is utterly disappointing. Minecraft needs more life-like creatures imo. I don't want to know what happens next in the future...
