there's a lot of memorable lines from this song like for example  "if you need my shame to reclaim your pride"  "when i think of it my fingers turn to fist" "you fondle my trigger then you blame my gun" this chick is so hardcore.

This whole record got me through my abusive marriage and subsequent divorce. It’s so personal that I feel uncomfortable listening to it around other people. It makes me feel exposed

Aside from all the ingeniously catchy lines, my favorite may be simply "I never did anything to you, man" because it shows how some people just impose their bullshit and their own demons onto you, even when you're just sitting around and minding your own business, they'll find a way to "fondle your trigger" then "blame your gun" and also "lick your wounds" in order to receive their "badge of honor" for calming the storm. What a great story.

I like that Fiona experiments with different elements of percussion. It seems that most of her songs are built on drum lines.

You fondle my trigger then blame my gun.. Best line 👍

I'm completely obsessed with the production on this album! Everything sounds so GOOD. Not to mention the top notch lyrics, the drumming, the piano... Everything Fiona Apple writes is really a masterclass in songwriting, and to have such talented musicians backing her up, plus a producer who clearly knows what he's doing, really makes this album a standout.

Lyrics You wanna make me sick You wanna lick my wounds Don't you baby? You want the badge of honour  When you save my hide But you're the one in the way Of the day of doom,  Baby If you need my shame  To reclaim your pride And when I think of it,  My fingers turn to fists I never did anything to you man But no matter what I try,  You'll beat me with Your bitter lies So call me crazy,  Hold me down Make me cry;  Get off now, baby It won't be long till you'll be  Lying limp in your own hands You feed the beast  I have within me You wave the red flag, Baby  You make it run  Run  Run Standing on the sidelines,  Waving and grinning You fondle my trigger,  Then you blame my gun And when I think of it,  My fingers turn to fists I never did anything to you man But no matter what I try,  You'll beat me with Your bitter lies So call me crazy,  Hold me down Make me cry Get off now baby It won't be long till you'll be  Lying limp in your own hands And when I think of it,  My fingers turn to fists I never did anything to you man But no matter what I try,  You'll beat me with Your bitter lies So call me crazy,  Hold me down Make me cry Get off now baby It won't be long till you'll be  Lying limp in your own hands
  • This is absolutely the best song for gas lighting awareness for anyone that has ever had to deal with a narcissist mind blowing awesomeness!!!!

Shes so talented. Shes one of the best poets in all of music of all time. Her awareness of life at such an early age is so impressive.
  • “You fondle my trigger, then you blame my gun” Literally my favorite lyric ever
  • @shellycarter97
Best fucking song ever for someone going through abuse. She is a genius and I've loved her since I was 18. Understand her lyrics much more now at 43.

"You fondle my trigger then you blame my gun" ... is as good as it'll ever be.

Fiona is a true master of expressing how vulnerable she is via her anger. It's such a real feeling I think everyone knows... hurt coming out as anger... saying vicious things about someone who just hurt you. When I was younger I liked Fiona's music but I was like "she's a scary chick!" Then I went through some shit and now I immediately recognize it as vulnerability... she's not crazy, she's hurt! It takes a lot of guts to expose that sort of raw emotion. Its never pretty but it's very endearing to hear it expressed in such a real way.
  • @the.wormhole
So happy my mom named me after her. Truly (I don't have any adjectives to describe her perfectness) high pitched screaming
  • @justsupergood
I love Fiona Apple. Her songs helped me get through high school when I discovered teh Extraordinary Machine album and now after years of loving all her albums I honestly would be a much sadder, sorrier human without her profound, deep and meaningful lyrics. I'm not alone in my deep feelings and hurt. Thanks Fiona! You are an exquisite human!!
  • @TaintShot526
The drummer is incredible but so is Jon Brion as the producer and much more. But let's face it, it all boils down to Fiona Apple. She's fucking amazing.
  • @noronahahaha
"When I think of it, my fingers turn to fists." oh how i can relate...
  • This album felt like it was made for me when it first came out. I was in a abusive relationship and it helped me tremendously. I honestly don't know what i would have done without these songs. "You fondle my trigger, then you blame my gun. " i love it when music touches u in that way , makes u feel alive again and that theres hope.
