Lyrics:
I've been a bad bad girl
I've been careless
With a delicate man
And it's a sad sad world
When a girl will break a boy
Just because she can
Don't you tell me to deny it
I've done wrong and
I want to
Suffer for my sins
I've come to you
'Cause I need
Guidance to be true
And I just don't know
Where I can begin
What I need is
A good defense
'Cause I'm feelin'
Like a criminal
And I need
To be redeemed
To the one
I've sinned against
Because he's all
I ever knew of love

  • I swear, unless you lived during this time, this exact vibe is hard to understand. The gross plywood and green carpet is very 70s but mixed with the heroin chic dirty vibe of the 90s alt scene, it gives a very specific party scene that was definitely not fun.

Bless my parents who had to listen to 14 year old me sing this on repeat during our three day drive to Maine.

Everyone’s talking about her incredible, haunting voice and undeniable talent, but what about her stunning beauty? She had it all.
  • @lookismfan
the amount of power in her voice is INSANE.
  • I remember her winning an MTV award, and standing on that stage saying "this world is bull shit". I thought that was awesome. She meant the music industry, the front the stars put on for every one to see, it's all just a bunch of fake ass bull shit. She told the kids out there watching, not to try and be like them or dress like them, be yourself. Cause it's all just bull shit. People got mad at her for that. She became my hero.
  • the fact that she wrote this in 45 minutes after her label asked her for a "clearer single" my god
  • "What would an angel say, the devil wants to know" such an amazing lyric. She was so talented ❤❤❤
  • @whoisj
her voice is legendary. gives me chills still to this day 20+ years after I first heard. real life siren if there ever was one.
  • @Yeldineyintun
No teenager should be able to write music this sophisticated. Fiona is a goddess
  • This could debut in (insert current year) and still be as fresh as it was in the 90s. Flawless.

Intense…dark…and mesmerizing, this singer is as lovely as an angel, a beautiful angel with dark wings and she’s got the dark and deep voice of one who has known sadness and pain. Her voice is slow and soulful and deep like a smoldering fire. She makes you feel her pain, and it hurts so sweetly.

Ahhhh taking a trip down memory lane it so refreshing! 90s was the best era of music.
  • @faith1270
I can’t believe she was only 17 when she wrote this.. it’s a lyrical masterpiece but I feel so sad watching this, knowing all the hard things she was dealing with
  • @specialt3701
That drummer deserves a high five for this crunchy groove
  • @theseance7080
I love how she portrayed the feeling of being in a stalemate, its just brilliant
  • @VinesBee
I was OBSESSED with this video back in the day and would stop to watch it every time it came on MTV. She was/is INCREDIBLE.
  • @fluidstatic5564
Man, when this came out on mtv and vh1, I remember how everybody flipped their lids. Some people insisted it was softcore porn, or that it was her coded cry for help to escape a much older abusive partner. Now it's absolutley tame and Fiona is rightfully a legend in alt rock. A trailblazing track with scary good marketing.
  • @kilingsta
I came to see the clip for reference in the book "my dark Vanessa", she has a good voice and I consider her very strong for everything she went through
