Cleaned the carb on my 30 year old 14PB because it would only run for a very short time then quit. Following each direction ,pulled the rope and it started right up and ran smoother than ever. Thanks for the great tutorial!!!

Picked one of these up at the scrap yard for 5 dollars. Guy said oil seal was leaking. I have a few of these mowers. These were excellent mowers, really like the Kawasaki engine on them.

Great video 👍 I love those ole John Deere mowers. If they're taken care of they'll run forever!

I suggest ultrasonic cleaner. Antifreeze as medium then parts in mason jars with cleaner. Works great.

Looks like a well built mower always like the kawasaki engines, great job Jeff. Oh and the chickens too.

These are fantastic mowers, probably the best ones John Deere made. My dad has a 14sx pro version and it never has any major issues only problem with it is the blade brake clutch hates engaging when cold but once warmed up it's perfect.
  • Ok I never owned a John Deere lawn mower before so as I watched your you tube I pretty much understand how to go by cleaning it thanks

Nice cleanup job jeff. I have not had the desire to go into my shop due to the very cold weather. Glad it is warmer where you are.

I have worked on a lot of lawnmower carburetors and I have to say this is the one that came straight from hell to my door step this weekend. Satan is grinning from ear to ear with delight. After ultrasonic cleaning, soaking in gasoline and carb cleaner all weekend barely got that main jet out but succeeded. Now that sob main jet won't go back in. Ended up stripping the threads and now jet is stuck in the carb. I was always successful with carburetor rebuilds but that 30 year old carburetor kicked my ass.

Kawasaki ones are much, much more desirable. One of the best vertical shaft engines out there. I've got a JE75, electric start with oil filter and fc150v my grandpa bought new. Best mower and most reliable mower I've ever used. Mow with one and you'll never go back.
  • Just pick up that exact mower. So, I going to use your technique. Great video and loved the chickens.
  • Kawasaki engines, if maintained properly are powerful, very reliable and will give many years of effortless service * one of the very few companies nowadays that surpass customers expectations

I had the 14SB and the SE.Great machines its a pity jd dont make them anymore.
  • Just picked up a 14sb and a 14st. Took a while to get the first running. turns out the problem was a blocked fuel line and the coil wire goes to a module that steps up the voltage for the spark. the module was bad. thank you again for the video

I have a 14sb and love it. The only thing I am missing is the rear discharge chute. Any idea where I can get one?

Great mowers, right up there with the Honda HR214 series!

A good fix , it amazing that they can sit for so long and with a little work it up and running again. Did the plastic part on the carb hold in the end?
