When I vacationed in cuba, I hurt my hand pretty bad and I was in a bad mood. This begger came up to me, an older woman. She seemed homeless and put her hands out for money. I shoo'd her away or just sighed or something. I can't remember, I was in pain and didn't want to deal with her. She wasn't the usual con artist trying to draw a picture of you while you walk and try to force you to give you money. She was just begging. I thought about what I had just done and prayed to god, "Lord if you want me to help that woman, put her in my path once more." Sure enough after a couple blocks down I see her sitting against a wall looking sad. It tore my heart apart as it seemed she gave up after me. I gave her all the cash I had in my pocket and watched her face shine like I had never seen before. I had to give thanks to god for convicting me of my actions and the gift he gave me once I did the right thing.

As a social worker in the U.S.A I find myself coming back to this video again and again to remind myself that God is so much more than those who try and represent them. The scene at the end where the figure takes and deep breath and get to work, and the very end of the seemingly endless task of pulling people out of injustice bring me to tear every time. It represents my feelings so well.

There is beauty in simplicity. The scarf...moving like the Holy Spirit, moved me.

“Treating others as the image of God.” wow that hit me
  • It’s so important to have a Biblical understanding of justice. Without a godly response to injustice, the cycle continues.

The symbolism at the end of using the Holy Spirit as a lifeline to save the oppressed, unexpectedly brought tears to my eyes.

"Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne." Psalm 89:14
  • "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another."

"When the oppressed gain power, they often become oppressors themselves." It happens way too often. Sad but true.
  • I’m an agnostic/atheist (and perfectly content to stay that way so please don’t try to convert me), but I gotta say I love these videos. I grew up Christian but I was turned off by all the hypocrisy and shallow thinking of Christians around me. But you guys really do the Bible justice, and have helped me to reconnect with my roots. Definitely the best way to learn about the Bible, outside of reading it yourself (which I’m also slowly working through).
  • I am in law school, so i love to watch videos about justice in a christian way. Thank you so much, bible project. God bless you all ❤

I have watched this so many times and it still gets me every time 😭 especially the last illustration!!! This is a whole new level of ‘loving one another’ that I’m still learning to unfold. Having the courage to speak up for those who have no voice & treating others as the image of God. Wow. Thank you Bible project for the awesome videos ♥️
