  • I run a smallish stream when I run my 30 gallon. Iv run a pencil lead stream and also a drip. It honestly didn't make much difference that I could tell other than time to run. Good video man!!
  • I do coach folks to run low and slow. I agree with you that there isn't a real quantitative advantage. We teach low and slow because it helps keep the new distiller running more methodically. Great video, brother.

    Alan, great topic. I run my stream as fast as I can without overloading the condenser. I like my output to be about 75F. Now I use a forced air double condenser because I hate plumbing. I have 2 copper tubes packed with cooling fins like you would see in a baseboard heat register and a fan blowing ambient air across them.

    It depends on your heat source and your mash because if i run it slow i get 10% higher proof than when i run it fast , im not saying you should do as i do but i get my best results eith the stripping run running it slow , i keep my condenser water in the low to mid 60s til i run out of ice then i shut her down because im already down to practically nothing .if its a spirit run i run it a bit faster but my condenser water is still mid to low 60s , thats just how i havw always done it snd it works for me ...being old and stubborn i fight change like a lion lol , whatever method you find that works best for you ,is the right way to do it ..the guys at this channel know their business ,they aint rookies so if you listen to them ,they can teach you something valuable

  • Alor of truth to that brother! I'm not sure how this "low and slow" thing came to life. I've tried it and it was of no real value to me.

    Would you say it is helpful on a 8 gallon pot still to run a little on the slow side through the foreshots before bumping it up?

    Come on, what about the width of the column, in my experience a 2 inch column is a flow drip,drip flow, drip, drip. A 3 inch column is is pencil lead width continuous flow and 4 inch or above is pouring out. I know this will vary depending on how much you want to clean or capture the flavour.

    So... 1. Is this regarding spirit run or striping or both? 2. What size condenser is used (does it matter what size)? 3. So fluid exit temp isn't important, then what criteria do we use to guage proper flow rate?
