We challenged chefs of three different skill levels - amateur Onika, home cook Daniel, and professional baker Lani Halliday - founder and owner of Brutus Bakeshop - to make us a sweet and creamy milkshake. Once each level of chef had served up their creation, we asked expert food scientist Rose to explain the choices each made along the way - both good and bad. Which milkshake are you sharing with your date?

  • Level 1: traditional milkshake Level 2: basically vegan Level 3: literally everything is handmade
  • Oh a professional chef that doesn't go too cra... "Liquid nitrogen" Well there it is
  • Onika: obsessed with Oreos Daniel: obsessed with almonds Lani: obsessed with starting things from scratch
  • Favorite line: "If someone makes you a milkshake, chances are they love you."
  • Dang I was gonna make a milkshake but I’m all out of liquid nitrogen
  • Level one: OREOSSS Level two: banana, banana, banana Level three: decadent punch, liquid nitrogen, leave over night
  • Frankly Onika had more of a "Home Cook" feel with all that budget-conscious choice of ingredients and equipment, just screams "I know what I'm after tonight and I'm gonna make it" mentality. Daniel came across more as the "Amateur Cook" in that they know more of the quirks in cooking but do it as almost a hobby, it's a little extra, would impress in a family meeting. Lani just makes me think of one of the "antagonists" in Food Wars that excelled at food sciences. Knows exactly all the ways to make exquisite gourmet foods (which makes sense given their profession.)
  • 10:00 Level 2 and 3 chefs just calmly doing what they do, and then onika just smashing the crap out of the oreos is hilarious
  • Weve got the nice lady across the street, the cool uncle, and the over the top aunt.
  • "If someone makes you a milkshake, it means they love you" Me, starring at a Coldstone employee making my shake "I love you too"
  • Love the level 1 chef!! Please bring her back. She def makes her food with love and you can tell it’s for someone to really enjoy and not just to be a flex. I would chose her milkshake any day!
  • @Danteax
    Onika ain’t a level 1, she’s a genius with budget ingredients
  • Onika's milkshakes bring all the commenters to the yard, and they're like "it's better than yours, Daniel." In all reality, I think Daniel's "milkshake" is a nice way to go a little easier on the stomach for those of us who can't handle dairy well. Everybody's milkshakes looked so great! I love getting to hear from Rose too! Love you, Epicurious! <3
  • As a culinary graduate all I can say is every passionate baker I've ever met is a mad scientist and this video proves my point
  • Me: May I have a milkshake? Lani: Sure, it will be ready in two days.
  • “When can I have my sprinkles mom?” “I have to wait for the sprinkles to dry overnight,”
  • honestly lovevthe first one. ik everyones getting upset abt level two but as someone who is lactose intolerant i would absolutely love that smoothie milkshake

I like how the level 3 chef said it’s gonna be more stable then coconut whipped cream while the level 2 chef was making coconut whipped cream
