I continue my reaction from a doctors perspective of Cells at Work (Hataraku Saibou) by reviewing episode 3 Influenza. I'll break down the scenes and give more of an insight into the cells and the medical science where I can!

We learn about viruses, cytotoxic t cells, dendritic cells, macrophages, and loads more...

Thank you to everyone who has made the first two videos so popular, I probably mean you if you're reading this! I've had a hectic week but really wanted to give you guys another episode, so here it is.

This is by far the most technical review, I had to hold myself back a bit because loads of stuff like B-cells, antibodies, memory cells, all were talked about, but didn't want to have a one hour review!

If you like this you can check out my look at the first episode here:

Again this video is more of an explanation and breakdown as well as a reaction, so it is very medical at times, we talk about cell biology, microbiology and the physiology of your body. I try and bring something different to each video, so if you enjoyed this please check out my other reviews of Medical TV dramas; House MD, Scrubs, The Good Doctor, Grey’s Anatomy, The Resident and ER!

THANK YOU everyone for all the support of this series. This was my favourite episode to date, in terms of medicine it was crazy how much stuff there was and was good immunology revision for me! Apologies for the audio at the start of this one, it does improve. Let me know your favourite episodes down so I know what I've subjects I've got to look forward to...

" I didn't want to make this video an hour long" Why do you think I'm here? Are you implying that I wouldn't sit here for the whole ride if you did make a longer video?
  • @RadenWA
When Macrophage swings her knife and the aerial shot shows her skirt flowing in a circle, it makes her look like the actual cell. Just a nice detail I noticed.

Cells At Work: stuffs so many medical easter eggs into the background that you come to expect them Also Cells At Work: "I just thought it'd be funny for a badass to lose his shoe."

When the naive T. cell matures it looks a Pokémon mega evolving
  • @LabMatt
We live in an age where the question "what's your favorite cell" has become incredibly commonplace. Mine's Macrophage.

A Doctor reviewing an Anime about Cells and the Human Body, who could have guessed this would be such an absolutely wonderful series? Thank you so much!
  • @OceanFragments
I don't know what I love more: The doctor analyzing an anime, or just his sheer delight at it. This is super fun to watch and look forward to more of your reviews. This takes "anime reviews' to a whole new level, AND it's educational!
  • The Japanese word for Dendritic cell actually means "tree-appearance cell" too and it's fitting they have his office thing shaped like a tree. I'm guessing you'll be doing more in the future.

You know the video is going to be good when you have: 1:Anime; 2:Science; 3:A charismatic person who knows what he's talking about. Awesome video as always! I'm waiting anxiously for the next one!
  • By stopping the video and breaking down the different medical terms in the show you create something amazingly entertaining and Unique. These visual break downs are really the highlights of each episode!!!!

"But I didn't want to make this video an hour long." I would watch. The entire. Hour.
  • Looks at cell biology notes in my hand I think i have a better idea, opens up youtube and comes here TEACH ME SENPAI!
  • @Matthewrents
13:26 "In reality, this would happen slightly differently".. Right, I imagine my dendritic cells would speak English, and not Japanese. I think it is still close though!

After this series, please do make a reaction to the show's spin-off manga, Cells at Work Black. It takes a dark (and quite morbid) turn where the cells are working in a very unhealthy body and face very harsh challenges in doing their jobs.

Imagine being the first person to see microorganisms. "I'm not 100% sure what I'm looking at, but this shit is wild!"
  • @blueskull5727
mission "turn a doctor into an anime youtuber" shows great succes
  • @fae.elegie
You know you're a nerd when your favourite reaction series is a doctor reacting to an educational anime.
  • @KT-oi3yt
I am a Japanese who likes cells that work. Your video is clear and amazing. In Japan, it was fun because there was no movie explained like you.
