I like how she gets right into the video without having a very long intro :)

Tiny cages aren’t all bad. They’re great for days that I want to bring my birds outside for a little bit without the full barriers of the sturdier travel carriers. But of course no bird should be kept in them for very long

    1. Don't feel bad because you have any of these products, slowly remove them or save up for healthy and safe ones, especially if you didn't know that some of these were harmful! Everyone has to learn it. 2. DO NOT get rid of small bird cages, in fact, you might even want a small, easy to carry one in case you need to visit a vet or you bring your bird outside for a bit! Don't leave them in it too long though! 3. If you're not sure if something is safe for your bird, you probably want to not add it until you make sure it is safe and more research is done! and 4. I'VE NEVER HAD A BIRD. this is just tips I think everyone should know though!

I remember trying a sand perch for our first bird (we didn’t know much yet) and he simply refused to use it. We quickly realised it was probably not comfortable for the guy. Props to him for expressing his opinion by outright rejecting the perch.

I'm wondering why all these bird companies are trying to kill birds...

I try to avoid these videos because they give me so much anxiety I try to spread this information to my parents, but they insist that the toys and perches wouldn't be on the market if they're bad. It upsets me that they don't listen to me and look down on me just because I'm younger :(
  • I just came across this video. I have been working with birds for 40+ years. I think your video was done extremely well. Very well done researched and done. You are definitely a terrific bird mom.!!

It wasn’t mentioned in the video, but a lot of places sell rope perches and boings made of sisal, which is a more easily digestible fibre than cotton and could be a good replacement if your bird loves the boings!

I had a parrot before, and unfortunately made a bunch of these mistakes with him. I feel so bad now. Thanks for the informative video!

When you showed us the image of the bird with crop impaction, there was an image of a man on the side and that man is our Avian vet. How crazy is that?!
  • I absolutely love this video! You pointed out the most important things like ropes and bells! As bird owner im horrified by how many people use happy huts or ropes and say "She doesn't bite or lick it!"
  • @iamnotapotato.5
I’ve been heavily researching birbs before i get one of my own this is a very good and informative video so thank you and from my (hopefully) future bird!
  • Peanuts can be deadly to parrots because of a mold specific to peanuts that you can not see. So often they show no symptoms until it’s too late.
  • I love that a lot of the toys recommended/ shown came from bonka birds. I ordered once from there and then called to ask if I could just pick it up instead and i was amazed at the amount of creative toys there are for birds. Safe to say i bought 100 bucks worth of natural materials to make DIY toys 😅
  • Omg I’m a lovebird owner of 10 years and I never knew about crop impaction! Thankfully my birds have never gotten it, but I’m not gonna take any chances. My female had been SUPER into biting her snuggle sack (and getting insanely hormonal/territorial) lately, so it’s definitely time for it to go. I just feel bad taking it out because she seems to love it so much haha. Thanks for the informative video!

I hate seeing mineral / pumice perch in bird cages :( Pey stores in my country sell all those products and does not matter how expensive, useless and harmful they are, people keep buying them everyday! I wish there's more people like you
  • I knew about most of these but didn't even think about the sand perches causing cuts. Its so frustrating how so many things marketed for animals end up being harmful for them. Thank you for the info!
  • Ty for all this!! My mom owns a cockatiel but hasn't been taking care of it properly so I've been trying my best to take care of her!
  • @lemonthecanary
Even though I own canaries, not parrots, these tips are really helpful. Just a few tips. 1. Dowel perches are not really bad, the same with sandy perches, IF those perches are the lowest. Birds tend to sleep on the highest perch. So I just put sandy and dowel perches but they are low. 2. Small cages can be useful travel carriers, but just like you said, they can't be a birds permanent cage, as thwy need space. 3. Cotton rope perches are ok as long as they have no loose strings. 4. Bird litter can be used as a foraging activity, because you can hide seeds or treats in it.
