Budgies are easy to tame... if you know what you're doing. But for the majority of people, they really aren't easy to tame because they're so flighty- the only reason they would be easier than other birds is because their bite doesn't hurt so it's easier to ignore what they want and push past their boundaries (which is NOT a good thing)

You have a lot of patience for all these little souls. šŸ’•

Thank you for mentioning how loud a Moustache Parakeet can get! It really IS ear piercing and can get very annoying. Lol. I did a lot of research before I got one, (However mine is a Moustache Derbyan Hybrid) and a lot of people said they weren't very loud and could be considered an apartment parrot. It was pretty misleading, so when I got my boy it was a huge shock. It took a while to get used to, but he's so worth it. He's such a sweet bird, and he didn't go through much of a bluffing phase in my experience. They really are such amazing pets! If you can handle a moustache parakeet, you're in for a treat hahaha

Please never stop making videos.... You are a natural.... Love love love your content
  • I enjoyed this video very much. I would like to add, as someone who has birds in an apartment, that people often talk about ā€œGood apartment birds,ā€ but rarely talk about if apartments are good for birds. Itā€™s very difficult to have a bird in an apartment. You canā€™t entirely control the environment, like if other people in your building cook with non-stick pans, spray toxic substances in the vacinity, and make loud noises all night. Like playing a loud booming vibrating bass speaking that vibrates against your floor and walls all night. Or heavy walking over your ceiling for hours, and dropping things, if youā€™re not on the top floor. We even had someone install a bird deterrent (and lie about it) high pitched noises to irritate the birds, so we had to move out of that building. There are crazy people and loud obnoxious people, and rude people in apartment buildings sometimes. So I just think, if I had to live my life over again, I would wait until I could buy a house before I would get birds. Every single day I feel terrified that my apartment manager, or my city, is gonna varnish right near my bird room without telling me, and poison my sweet babies. I have every single air purifier and soundproofing device I could afford to buy, but Iā€™m a nervous wreck trying to make sure my birds are safe in this stupid apartment. Would not recommend having birds in an apartment, ever

I volunteer at a rescue Aviary and the birds that cause the most trouble are Love Birds.

Thank you for your contributions to aviculture. As a long time budgie owner, I have to differ with you on your statement that theyā€™re always chattery. Mine have periods, sometimes quite long, when they are quiet and snoozy, much like other grass parakeets. Just like Bourkeā€™s and Tourquosines, they are most active in the mornings and at twilight. Thereā€™s a reason budgies remain the most popular pet bird; theyā€™re simply adorable.

Growing up Asian, I've grown to have immense respect for Americans who taught me to show compassion for animals big and small. In Asian culture we see animals as food or aides for farming, but as asian nations become richer and the average person moves to middle class and we are no longer struggling in the fields, we can actually dedicate more time to learn about treating our animals with love and kindness. I'm not saying all Asians treat animals badly (most dont), the majority sees them as "lesser than" humans, when in actuality animals are actually equal to us and should be treated with love and respect since it is humans that are the shepherds.
  • I have a Bourke parakeet that I got when she was about 6 weeks old, also named Rosie. She loves to be out and sit on my shoulder, look at my phone (she's taken selfies of herself when looking at my phone), and will do recalls when I call out to her. If I am lying down, she flies down next to me to see what I am looking at, and has ever tried to look to see if I have anything in my shirt. I have pictures of her doing these things. She immediately jumps on my hand when I reach into her cage to change her water, feed dishes, etc. Since getting her, I have gotten 2 adult Bourkes (both females) from a breeder. One will step up on a perch to move her from one place to another, the other is too skittish. I assumed that it was because they were not handled much as babies. Until watching your Bourke video, I guess I never realized how lucky I am with my Rosie's unique personality! She will be a year old in a few weeks.

Iā€™m so excited to get more birds. I was never a bird person but one day birds randomly became interesting to me and then I got one and I love them now
  • @maurofulgoni
I have two cockatiels and you are absolutely right, they're dusty and my male (Zazu) is noisy sometimes. But also they're the most gentle pets I could've asked for. I came here looking for info because I want a pair of lovebirds, and this was surely helpful!
  • These videos are really helpful, thank you! I've only ever had budgies so don't know what to expect when I start considering other species. Definitely wish I had more time at home so that I could have a companion bird. I love my little flock but it's all bribery to get them to do things, and one skittish one who that doesn't work on at all! :D
