CZBB to CYCW, 2024

This video starts off with some exciting scenery in the mountains between Stave Lake and Harrison Lake, British Columbia while en route to Chilliwack airport. The view is mainly of the cockpit and what you can see through the windscreen - a back seat passenger's view, but with that passenger leaning forward between the seats for a good view of the instruments and the windscreen. The audio track consists of a subdued rumble from the engine and a gentle, repetitive guitar track to ease us viewers into a relaxed state of mind where we can watch the world go by. Great if all you want to do is get the feeling of flying but can't make it to the airport for whatever reason.

The route flown is from Boundary Bay, BC to Chilliwack BC, but not the usual way - i.e. neither along the Fraser River nor through the Abbotsford control zone. Our route is presented off the top of the video and the footage picks up just past the top of Stave Lake, eastbound toward Harrison Lake. From there we follow the western shoreline south and then via Harrison Mills to Chilliwack airport. En route, we take a quick look at the site of a rockslide which triggered a huge tsunami in Chehalis Lake in 2007. Lots of fun in the mountains on a calm, relatively windless day with high ceilings.

If you are in a hurry or just want something sensational, then perhaps the first 8 to 10 minutes are all you need. This video is 25 minutes long with the latter 2/3 of if it just flying along - over beautiful landscapes. The equivalent of a road trip where you're just waiting to get to the destination. But that is exactly my objective in creating this video, to provide an example of being in a small single-engine aeroplane flying along and watching the world slide by below. Maybe a kind of flying equivalent of the fireplace log video we've seen at Christmas time.

This video is not suitable for use as a training video, but it may be the start of a conversation with a flying instructor.

As I mention in the video, here's a link to detailed technical information about the Chehalis Lake rockslide:
