ZBB to CYCW - 2020

Published 2020-06-06
This video is produced as a companion piece to a trip sheet in the library of the BC General Aviation Association, (www.bcaviation.ca). It follows a novel route to Chilliwack airport (CYCW) from Boundary Bay airport (CZBB) in British Columbia, Canada. The route is “novel” because it avoids the usual flightpaths - either along the Fraser river, eastbound past Sumas Mountain or// south through the Abbotsford control zone and then swinging north to the eastern end of Sumas Mountain and along the Fraser river. Instead, this route follows a rather fun path up Alouette Lake, across Stave Lake and then into a mountain valley. It’s an interesting and fun route to fly on days when the weather is good – as you will see in the video.

I’ve camped by canoe at Cypress Point in Stave Lake. In early March it was very peaceful, didn’t see a single person the whole trip except on the shore at the south end of the lake. Very beautiful country so close to home.

That route takes you into areas that are rarely if ever shown - fascinating. I've spent decades looking at the Vancouver side of those mountains, now I know.
