My first 6 months living full-time in the abandoned mining town of Cerro Gordo. Some of the best (and a few worst) times of my life so far! Really enjoying it.

Subscribe to this channel for more updates from the town! I have no plans of leaving anytime soon, so hopefully lots more (positive) updates to come!

THANK YOU!!

I moved to Cerro Gordo in March 2020 because of the pandemic and to relieve our longtime caretaker so he could be back home. I've been here ever since. There have been ups and downs, but I feel I am learning a lot and becoming a better person.

Follow along on this channel for more from the town. I have no plans to leave and will continue making videos to update the progress on all the projects!

The town was originally established in 1865 and by 1869 they were pulling 340 tons of bullion out of the mountain for Los Angeles.

The silver from Cerro Gordo was responsible for building Los Angeles. The prosperity of Cerro Gordo demanded a larger port city and pushed LA to develop quickly.

The Los Angeles News once wrote:

“What Los Angeles is, is mainly due to it. It is the silver cord that binds our present existence. Should it be uncomfortably severed, we would inevitably collapse.”

In total, there has been over $17,000,000 of minerals pulled from Cerro Gordo. Adjusted for inflation, that number is close to $500,000,000.

It’s been a wild ride so far owning a ‘ghost town’ and we’re having a lot of fun figuring out what to do with it.

Thank you for watching another of my videos! This was a big one to do, but it seemed like a momentous event to make it 6 months in. Let me know in the comments what kinds of things you'd like to see more of!

He is actually the ghost. He died on his first night out in the the snow. He can never leave and is doomed to haunt the property in a futile attempt to restore life and happiesness and can never pass over.

"It's totally normal for you to be talking to yourself or to animals if you're alone for extended periods of time. It's when they start talking back that you have a problem."

when you DO finally reopen the 'NEW AMERICAN HOTEL' - the last thing you do , b4 you open the doors to the public, is go into the card saloon, and fire your pistol into the wall 'exactly' where the old bullet hole was ... then you know its full circle 2.0 & once again complete!!! x
  • I can imagine there being a zombie apocalypse and all of LA is overrun but there's whispers of a small town in the mountains named Cerro Gordo that's a safe haven.

You need a dog. They are wonderful companions especially in an old ghost town.

I visited Cerro Gordo in 2004 with a friend. It was an experience I will never forget. This channel was so exciting for me to discover. I screamed “Noooooo!!!” When I heard about the hotel in episode 4. That was devastating. I remember the previous caretaker told me that the wood burning stove in the hotel stayed hot for something like 80 years since it was always cooking night and day. Ghost stories of a woman walking around, hearing stage coaches and mule trains at night coming up the hill but never arriving. I can’t wait to come back now!
