Will SpaceX catch boosters with 2.5 meters of wiggle room at Pad39A? :_WAIShocked: 09:34 Correct measurements for the two towers are Length and width 13 meters for both Mechazilla 2 and Falcon 9 Tower
  • I drove 1,863 miles to see this site up close in person. Got to see Starship unstacked, and later stacked. Truly amazing.

Falcon 9 lands with what is called a "hover slam". It has more thrust than it weighs at landing even with one engine throttled all the way down, so it basically has to go straight in, rapidly decelerating all the way to touch down. Super Heavy Booster on the other hand will, as I understand, be able to truly hover and thus come in slower and thus be able to fine tune the engagement point with the tower.
  • Now I'm super proud that I could walk down the roud next to the produsction site at Star Base. It was quite a trip all the way from Czech Republic.

No tiles falling off on Ship 24 static fire as it was on ship 20 static fire.

I don't see them attempting to catch the booster at Kennedy until after they have successfully caught it at Boca Chica or another site. Too much risk (politically) associated with a large failure at Kennedy.

11:08 11.5 is definitely not less than half of 20.9 Half of 20.9 is 10.45

SpaceX did it again - doing something after the video was shot, making one of the points not longer be correct (in this case they rolled back B7 presumably to install the center engines again before fully testing the ring of all 20 outer engines). Must be hard to try to keep up every week.
  • Thanks for the shout-out Felix 😁 BTW, the booster can be caught anywhere along the 11.5 catching beam. Don’t subtract the diameter of the booster. So, they would have +/- 5.75 m for in/out alignment error.

9:16 I've seen size comparisons of F9 and SS but for some reason, this was just insane. The booster dwarfs the entire F9 rocket. It's crazy.

don't forget that two meters for falcon nine is on a moving platform. on a stationary platform it is much more precise. The catch arms being stationary makes it much easier to be on target for a catch. check out the landings on the stationary pads. they have been getting more and more precise each time one lands. The onboard computers learn every time the fly and get better and better at it. the data they collect is then used to make each flight after better and more efficient. it is then put into every new rocket that is made making each successive rocket better and better. pretty smart idea when you think about it.

those heat tiles seem to be holding on well now!
  • amazing video as always! btw, we need a full video on how chopsticks work!!! like, how are they held to the tower, how the pulleys work, etc.

WAI Team, I was able to see SpaceX starbase last week on Friday before all this testing, and I will say it was impressive.
  • @dlewis8405
Counting down to that orbital flight of Starship. It will be awesome to see Artemis go this month and Starship next month (maybe).
  • @ghostworxx
Great video! Always look forward to your weekly updates.

Good show Felix. I watch a few of the other SpaceX vloggers but I think your shows are the best. You're relaxed your cadence is good so you're not going too fast and you're thorough and you have excellent Intel.
