THE BANG TRICK WORKED .SO glad I saw the comments about banging the battery from about a foot off the ground and dropping it. IT WORKED I had THREE bad batteries. ALL THREE have been working GREAT since May and I recharge and use the OFTEN. HOLY GUACAMOLE. Those three bad ones were here for over a year. I bought two news ones for 200 bucks a piece but something told me NOT to throw those bad ones out. THREE bad batteries now working PERFECTLY for five months with CONSTANT charging. I have the lawn mower, leaf blower and snow blower and I use the blower daily and the lawn mower once per week. HUGE area. SO glad I was the comments about BANGING the batteries. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

Thank you very much for investigating the flashing red light situation and explaining it! I called the Ego help number and waited for over an hour and finally hung up. I guess I should have read the manual (when all else fails). I was worried about what if meant and also was afraid of a house fire. I will subscribe to your channel.
  • @barryosullivan606
Much appreciated. I also opened my steel cupboard in the garage to find five red lights staring at me. Scary - until I viewed your excellent video. Thank you.
  • @rexoliver7780
I used to have 3 Ego mowers-2 Xcut hand mowers-Sp. Also a 42” ZTR ride mower liked them all——-rhen my house suffered a total loss from a fire. The fire burned QUICKLY. My spare battery’s were stored in the kitchen since my garage has no door. As I was doing laundry was when the house caught fire. After the firemen put the fire out they asked about my battery’s. Told them they were not being charged. Thfire started in the kitchen area where I kept the battery’s. As this point DO NOT stow your battery’s in your house. Once these get ignited you cannot put them out. Insurance is covering the loss. Think I will go back to a gas mower or one that uses a different kind of battery. At the temp rental home I am in have a laun service cut the lawn. My neighbor has an Ego hand type mower-I warned him about the battery’s. Ryobi was using LA battery’s in their outdoor gear as mowers. The LA battery’s are safer.

Good info man! I just got home and seen this and freaked out. I've had my battery for 3 years, but now I know that everything is going to be fine. Love my EGO!
  • @romank8603
thank for the video, i got that red light today and was worried something was going wrong with my stored batteries. Im glad its nothing more then the battery tech protecting itself.
  • @MikeBMW
Indeed, great information! I've recently hired a lawn guy because work has been brutal so my batteries have sat awhile. Now, I know why the charge goes down so much after that time. Thanks! :)
  • @fiskebc
Dropped it one foot from floor pushed the reset button and it worked. Crazy. Had red circle and both lights blinking on charger now it’s charging just fine. Twilight zone
  • @craigd10
I found my way to this video just now after finding my battery stored inside for the winter doing this, freaking out, and Googling it. Lol. I've owned Ego products for 6 years and knew about the self maintenance function - but never noticed the red lights and warmth. It would be nice if the manual mentioned to expect this behavior when it's doing self maintenance. I thought it was about to blow up!
  • Glad I found this. Last night one of my two batteries started flashing red, and it was warm to the touch on the indicator side. I saw the same thing several months ago after use and a charge...I called EGO, I was on hold for 30 mins....hung up and just forgot about it, till last night... So, I'm good..
  • @MsGrannyfrog
Thanks for the video. I was freaking out - I rotate and store off the charger but need a one day a month to charge. Yes red/warm fire because I keep them inside to avoid excessive heat and moisture.
  • @eatmelily
Wow, thank you....I noticed this last Winter, I had my batteries fully charged, and had placed them in my closet. I opened the door to get something, and I saw one of the batteries doing this, and when I pushed the button, all of the bars lit up...I never thought anything about it. Then the other day, I noticed one of the batteries doing the same thing, sitting where I keep them. It felt warm when I touched it. I almost called EGO but didn't. I have two 5ah batteries, a 7.5ah, and a 2.5 ah.....I usually use the 7.5 the most, in all my EGO tools, so I guess the 5.9 that was red, hadn't been used for a while.....Great Tips on charging and maintenance. I guess sometimes it really pays to read the manuals that come with products, LOL
  • @phileas816
Thank you sooo much for this. I have 6 of these batteries in the garage on a shelf and 1 of them just started to do the same thing after a month of storage or so. Would be all of them or at least two, but only one, I was worried. Like you, I freaked out because of the warm to the touch!!! They should also add in the user manual something about this red light lighting up for 10 seconds or so periodically, that would have helped to attribute the symptom to the root cause. God bless you for sharing this on youtube!
  • @DB57RB
Just experienced this exact thing. It's just before bed and I went down to take something out to the garage, the battery was glowing red and warm to the touch. I was also freaked out by it. I thought "oh great ones gone bad, is short circuiting and might burn my house down"
  • I had a NEW EGO 5Ahr battery give me the "red eye" when I woke up to fix my dinner prior to going to work for a mid work shift.Earlier that evening a VIOLENT thunder-lightening storm passed thru my area. The battery affected was not connected to anything and was full charge. So I put it in the Ego chrager and the battery "reset" itself. The end of the battery with the status light was warm.Figure that has the "bleeder" resistors that do the self maintenance.Guess the storm somehow tripped the battery to maintenance mode. The battery is less than a month old from Lowes.Came with my leafblower. After I reset it in the charger-it worked my Ego area lamp just fine-and even ran it at 6400Lm for about 2hrs!The Ego lamp is one of my "star" lights in my flashlight and portable battery light collection.Next is my Polarion light-this is like a handheld card HID headlight you can hold in your hand! I do store my batteries inside along with my other recharrgeable batteries. Now I have several Ego battery packs-4 for the ride mower and 1 each for the Ego hand mowers and one for the Ego leaf blower.
  • @oaker55
If you leave these batteries on the charger, they will also self-maintain themselves like this. If they have been on the charger and are showing fully charged and have been on the charger between uses, when you use them they will only last a short period of time before they need to be recharged. I started putting the chargers on a smart plug so that I could turn them on so they will charge and be ready to go when I was ready to use them.
  • @richardvacanti9428
Thanks. I was flipping out and thought this thing was going to explode or something. I feel better because of this video. Thank you. Ego should really put this in front of the owners manual so everybody can see about it.
  • @BMETFerg
Great video. I rotate my batteries on the charger week to week. I also have my charger on a timer so it only comes on for a few hours each day. I haven't noticed a decrease in battery life from this practice. I recently upgraded to the new mower with 10ah battery and new charger which seems to have more smarts built in than the basic black charger I have been using. I may need to just cycle that charger on for a hour each day to keep the battery topped off if necessary. I probably need to practice the cool down for the 10ah battery since it will be under constant use longer than my string trimmer or blower on my small quarter acre yard.
  • @yragtheblank
Very good tips. BTW I also use the EGO battery on my diy ebike. (Just make sure you do your home work before putting it on a bike, and make sure it is secure from both vibration and theft.)
  • @rongollonik7754
Thanks for the information. Although I have never seen all red lights in a resting battery, it is good to know what it means. Good job on seeing the red light and following through with Ego about it. Many people would not notice and not bother to find the cause.
