OK SO, they're on a battle field, we're at the end of the book and the final fight has arrived. Our heroes jump into the fray but the strategy that has been put in place is clear to fail, there's no way they'll win this battle but the higher ups pull rank and they go forward with the plan anyway.

Our protagonist confronts her love interest about the plan and he assures her the best thing to do is follow orders, no ones dying today. She trusts him and ignores the warning signs.

And so they fight, with everything they have, they fight. Our protagonist looks around the battlefield, watching as friends fall left and right. She focuses her mind and continues striking through enemy after enemy. Eventually the battle quietens, the foes are fewer and she stands alone on the field breathing hard, sweat and dirt coating her skin.

She spots a figure in the distance, her love interest stalks towards her with a knowing glint in his eye. At first she’s relieved to see him alive but then hesitates. The eyes she trusted implicitly look different to how they have before. Before she knows it he lunges forward and a sword has been plunged into her side, her knees buckle beneath her and her love guides her to the ground. He had been fighting for the other side all along. Slowly she begins to pass from this life to the next, heartbroken and calling out for a hero with her dying breath.

Hope you enjoyed my far too dramatic cover of Holding out for a hero! You can tell I live on booktok. It wouldn't be a Lydia the Bard cover if there wasn't tonnes and tonnes of DRAMA

See this. This is how you get an undead vengeance paladin. "Even in death I needed a hero. And the only hero around was myself."
  • @johnmazza3093
This brings us to the age old saying you either die a hero or live to see yoursellf become a villian
  • @amberdolphin1210
Guy, calm down. This is a different flavour of epic. This one will make you sob.
  • Huh, very versatile song. Original: a lighthearted song about wanting a man. Shrek: the backdrop to a climatic action scene. This: a dramatic tragic end.
  • I love that it makes this song sound like they are actually waiting for a hero to save them instead of just waiting for a man to sleep with.

I LOVE lydia videos so much because it is so obvious that in addition to being a beautiful singer, she is a storyteller. her videos are the perfect things to inspire others, they're like writing prompts with hauntingly angellic chords

The rough panting, the soaking blood dripping from the brow. Lingering memories of duty, of orders among the chaos of her mind. "72 hours... just hold out for 3 days." roaring over and over, for motivation? Desperation? No, survival. Clenching, a slippery grasp on the hilt of her steel. An unwavering horde bellowing forth. The ever dark night, a fortnight spent lost without light. The remaining time lost among the never rising sun. Brothers and Sister lost, only to rise up in arms once again under the beckoning everlasting night. The shattered steel of comrades strewn about, coated in glistening starlit crimson drool. The shambles and clanking of bones risen again. They claw, they scream... they eat.

This could definitely be used in a musical, and Lydia’s character is the main one that dies in the last scene. And the “I need a hero”s after Alex’s line (until the last one) are sung by the narrator as we watch the dramatic death scene
  • The sounds the way a lone soldier would feel in the middle of a seemingly pointless battle Trying to cling to hope Another great song Lydia! 💚
  • @loviebeest
With the way the art is drawn it really looks as if she looks at us, the audience. Pleading to send someone with her dying breath, but we can do nothing but helplessly witness everything.
  • I didn't remember the Fairy Godmother to be this touching and sad...
  • @maverick3508
Now imagine hearing reving motors and chainswords approaching menacingly and shouting "FOR OUR COMRADES, FOR THE EMPEROR!!!"
  • *Orbit above Malevelon Creek* "This is Spartan Team Omega. If they want war, we'll give 'em war."
  • @roxrequiem2935
Very unique take to a song thats almost always been interpreted as one for helpless damsels in distress. This one sounded like an honorable final stand. A final hope, a final cry for survival. Truly grimdark.
  • @jayinatophat
This is amazing. Like seriously. The vocals? The melody? The background noises? The art? STUNNING.
  • @joshf.3047
Music speaks many languages at once: when you're happy, you dance with it; when angry, if fuels the fire; sadness makes you feel it. This was amazing.
  • @afellowpotato
I don't know how a cover can be more epic than the original, but I'm here for it Edit: I said this before it came out. The original and this are both epic but in different ways.
