Brown Beauty Cake Recipe , Butterscotch & Chocolate Chip Cake from Scratch
DO YOU REMEMBER that good old southern cooking?
When I was growing up, my granny was my favorite cook. My mama was also a fantastic cook, but there was just something about being in granny’s kitchen. We all gathered around the table when we went to her house. I have made it easy for you to learn how to cook like my granny and mama did with cooking tutorials for every recipe in our cookbooks. You can see how to order these by visiting us on our website. Oh, and no difficult-to-find or crazy ingredients! Just simple ingredients and delicious food. I am a Southern girl born and raised in Collard Valley in Polk County, Georgia. We went to church on Sunday, school during the week, and the grocery store on Friday, and that was our life: no vacations, no camping, just plain old southern country people.
If you learn to cook like my mama and granny, you will become one of the best Southern cooks. Thank you so much for being a part of this dream of mine.
NOW FOR THIS FAMILY RECIPE:
BROWN BEAUTY CAKE
1/2 CUP SEMI-SWEET CHOCOLATE CHIPS
1/2 CUP BUTTERSCOTCH CHIPS
1/4 CUP BOILING WATER
2 1/4 CUPS SELF-RISING FLOUR
1 -1/4 CUP SUGAR
1/2 CUP SHORTENING
3 EGGS
1/2 CUP BUTTERMILK
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease well and dust with flour round cake pans. Stir chocolate and butterscotch with HOT water in a separate mixing bowl until chocolate is melted. Add shortening and sugar to a bowl and mix with an electric mixer. Add eggs and chocolate and beat 1 more minute at medium speed. Add 1 cup of flour, mix then add buttermilk. Now add remaining flour and mix on a medium speed for 2 minutes. Bake 35-40 minutes until toothpick comes out clean. Ice with frosting.
FROSTING For Layered Cakes (2 To 4 Layers)Tip: If icing a 13x9x2 sheet cake you can half the frosting recipe.
1 CUP SEMISWEET CHOCOLATE CHIPS
1 CUP BUTTERSCOTCH CHIPS
1 CUP STRONG COFFEE
2 LB. POWDERED SUGAR
Combine chocolate pieces, and coffee in saucepan. Stir over low heat until chocolate is just melted. Remove from heat; stir in confectioners’ sugar. Beat until smooth, glossy and easy to spread. If not glossy, stir in a few drops of hot water.
