Mike is single handedly making sure that the people addicted to youtube are still getting knowledge.😅

Hi, Dr Mike! Vet here! Actually, it's very rare for anyone to get toxoplasmosis from cat litter. To contract toxoplasmosis from cat litter, a few things would need to happen: the cat would have to have eaten an infected animal recently, and the cat's feces would need to remain in the litter box for about three days before someone touches it and then puts their contaminated hand in their mouth. So, it's not very likely. It's far more common to get it from poorly washed produce, like a salad.

My son got cat scratch fever when he was a toddler. He sat on my giant cat and tried to pull his ear off in the minute I was putting dropping grocery bags in the kitchen. My cat hid under the bed for an entire day because he felt guilty and was terrified of the once sweet toddler. 😢 8 hours of IV antibiotics at the hospital and a lesson to never chase a cat. Now, he’s 15 and essentially a cat whisperer.

Cat lovers will not hate on you for doing an awareness video of cat bites and scratches. I have 3 cats now and I’m allergic to them. My breathing is fine now, as I am used to them, but I do keep an eye on any bites or scratches. I’ve been lucky so far with nothing but bruises, welts, blood being drawn, and scars. Always good to know the risks and what to watch for. ❤

I’ve had a cat all my life, and therefore since I was a stupid kid for a lot of my life, I’ve gotten a lot of scratches and bites, and I’ve never once gotten a problem from it. But honestly, I think a video about health risks from cats would be amazing, and I don’t think anyone will be mad with you if you also add in health benefits with cats! You can interview cat experts to see what they know that you didn’t And definitely don’t forget the “cat love parasite virus” thingy
  • @vectorwolf
Having worked in rescue, I've been bitten by cats many, many times. If it's at all deep, it WILL get infected. Period, full stop. But it's always cleared up in a week on antibiotics, with no issues, so just like he said, don't sleep on it and think it'll clear up on its own. Just go to urgent care, get some antibiotics, and you're golden.

I would LOOOOVE you to do a video on Toxoplasma (gondii). That parasite is incredibly intriguing. And cats are not the only way you can catch that little critter. In fact, many people carry it without even knowing.
  • @danholmesfilm
You should do a vid that goes over negative medical concerns and positive medical benefits from all types of pets - cats, dogs, birds, fish, reptiles, bugs etc.
  • @whoisgabyy
you’ll never know how i got this many likes

Avoid cat bites or scratches by not using your hands as toys. Use a wand toy, or any toy to play with your cat, and don't teach it that your hands are toys.
  • I would honestly be so interested in seeing a hair follicle transplant video!
  • Dr Mike, I, who is a cat lover and I am really happy that you explained the risks of cat bites as I was a victim to one at a very young age. I wish I and everyone else knew sooner about the risks as I only went to the hospital an hour and 40 minutes after receiving the wound. (it is really a painful exprience) having a full video of cats or any animal risks would definitely be helpful for those who are looking into having them
  • @Chireiya
About the cat bite question: It's important that when you get a new kitten, you do not let them play-fight your hands! It might be cute to play with them like that when they're young and their claws and teeth small, but it might condition them to see your hands as toys and they will continue to attack them as they grow, making it more likely for you to be really hurt! Use cat toys and it'll be both fun and also safer for you.
  • Cat person here - its very important to owning an animal to be aware of these things. Going in blind and not doing research is probably gonna have a bad conclusion. I think the video would be very good for any person that owns, or is considering owning a cat.
  • I love Dr.Mike and his passion for medicine and helping people but I’d like to shout out some praise to his team too… the editing, sound effects, graphics and sense of team work. A job well done from everyone to make these videos so enjoyable!
  • @kateabez
Petition from a cat lady - if you do a cat video, maybe collab with Jackson Galaxy so he can talk about behavior mitigation or cause. Kitties don’t want to bite. We just don’t always know how to read them. ❤
  • Cat person here. I've been scratched numerous times while playing it wasn't that bad. But a video on it would be a good idea to raise awareness on potential issues especially if ur taking care of strays like me😅 Also get them vaccinated and neutered it makes them calmer. Incase of bites or scratches wash up thoroughly and keep a close check on it.

Dr. Mike. Can you go over the dangers of playing ice hockey and the benefits of having things like neck guards and full face shields? - wanna show my teammates that I’m not crazy about having extra protection. Edit: Most pro leagues now require you to have a face injury in order to be allowed to use a full face shield (it’s stupid but it’s true) an example of this is Connor Bedard now having a bubble due to breaking his jaw.

I appreciate you addressing some common misconceptions on various health concerns. It's quite enlightening to hear a professional perspective on these topics.
